Hi

I am looking for nhs criteria /,guidelines for supplying a hearing aid.

And also if there are any guidelines for age category as well.

Thank you!

Not an audiologist but surely if you feel you are having a problem with your hearing you have visited your GP. You will be referred for a hearing test and will then be issued with a hearing aid if it is needed.

What criteria are you looking for?

Court case between DH & employer.
Nhs provided DH with hearing aid for moderate to severe hearing loss.

Employer solicitor arguing that his hearing loss doesn’t require a hearing aid.
So would like to know what the qualifying criteria is for being supplied one as evidence.
Freedom of information request takes 30 days which we don’t have.

They follow NICE guidelines. Section 1.6.1 seems relevant. “Offer hearing aids to adults whose hearing loss affects their ability to communicate and hear, including awareness of warning sounds and the environment, and appreciation of music.”

I assume adults in this context means anyone over the age of 18, it doesn’t say otherwise.

Good luck, I hope it goes well.

Hang on, it does specify. This is from the start of the document.

“The guideline covers adults aged over 18, including adults whose age of onset of hearing loss was under 18 but who present for the first time in adulthood.”
