I say summer is over its autumn from tomorrow, oh says it's still summer because british summer time ends the last weekend in October.

OP posts:
IAmALazyArse · 22/09/2019 12:40

I think it's pretty obvious it's nithing to do with British summer time. Some countries don't change winter/summer time. Ask him if that means they are stuck in a single season for ever😁

Boobiliboobiliboo · 22/09/2019 12:41

The equinox marking the start of autumn is tomorrow. It’s set by nature.

The time changing is an administrative adjustment set by society.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 22/09/2019 12:42

If it’s according to the clock change there would only be two seasons; he’s wrong.

negomi90 · 22/09/2019 12:44

Its been Autumn for nearly a month.
Summer= June, July, August
Autumn = September, October, November
Winter = December, January, February
Spring = March, April, May

Basic primary school...

BaaBaaBS · 22/09/2019 12:46

You're both wrong, it's already Autumn. Grin what negomi90 said

Boobiliboobiliboo · 22/09/2019 12:46

A primary school that wants shutting.

Boobiliboobiliboo · 22/09/2019 12:47

So counties/countries where children return to school in July or August are into Autumn then?

🤦🏻‍♀️

IAmALazyArse · 22/09/2019 12:48

Tbf meteorologists apparently count end of August as end of summer. The September thing is astrological

Boobiliboobiliboo · 22/09/2019 12:48

Ever likely the planet is fucked with this piss poor understanding of nature!

HyggeHeart · 22/09/2019 12:52

It depends if you mean astronomical or meteorological but neither has anything to do with bst! www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/learn-about/weather/seasons/autumn/when-does-autumn-start

baldpate · 22/09/2019 12:53

@negomi90 I wonder what else you were taught that is incorrect 😉 autumn starts tomorrow

Can u help settle an argument for me please.
SpoonBlender · 22/09/2019 14:24

I don't get this requirement that each season be three months. That's clearly nonsense in the UK. Spring and autumn are half that, winter and summer much longer.

Boobiliboobiliboo · 22/09/2019 14:36

How are you defining spring/summer etc? Weather?

It’s a way of carving up the year. Quarters make sense.

SpoonBlender · 22/09/2019 14:54

Weather. I don't see any purpose in labelling a random set of months "autumn" if I'm going to be in shorts at the start and seven layers with a massive coat on at the end. What's the utility?

MrsSergeantSmith · 22/09/2019 14:55

I too would see it as 3 months of each season to equally divide the year. But I'm a horse owner so I usually define it by the amount of mud, horse hair, the behaviour of my idiot horse and the amount of rugs needed.
Spring - horse gone crackers as spring grass blows his mind, covered in horse hair from the waist up and mud from field from waist down. Horse wearing medium rug.
Summer - horse fat and lazy from abundance of spring grass, relatively little mud, horse not wearing rug.
Autumn - horse looking sorry for self and demanding food, wearing light rug, bit more mud, horse starts to resemble a bear as prepares winter coat.
Winter - mud everywhere you look, either frozen solid or 3ft deep. Horse either clipped and wearing thick rugs or resembles woolly mammoth. Owner skint and freezing. 😆

ThePants999 · 22/09/2019 15:43

@baldpate Any definition that says you're still in Autumn four days before Christmas is an idiotic one.

Evilmorty · 22/09/2019 15:46

There are two ways to do this, astronomical and meteorological. Google is your friend.

Nonnymum · 22/09/2019 15:49

I agree with negomi90 autumn begins in September. British summer time and winter time is irelevent. If we used that as a definition we would only have 2 seasons and summer would begin in March!

baldpate · 22/09/2019 15:51

@thepants999 but correct😉

Boobiliboobiliboo · 22/09/2019 17:17

Any definition that says you're still in Autumn four days before Christmas is an idiotic one.

Makes not sense given that Christmas is also being completely made up and not observed by everyone.

Boobiliboobiliboo · 22/09/2019 17:18

Actually, xmas is relevant. The festival was stolen from the pagans by the Christians. The pagans celebrated the start of winter on 21st December with trees, lights, feasting, presents..... sound familiar?

MereDintofPandiculation · 22/09/2019 17:39

That's clearly nonsense in the UK. Spring and autumn are half that, winter and summer much longer. Not if you live in the north. Summer is short, and it's already well into autumn with fruits on the trees, leaves changing colour and dropping.

CSIblonde · 22/09/2019 19:01

It's already Autumn, it's been v chilly come 4pm now for the last week or so: & the trees are already starting their leaf drop.

We had 23 degrees yesterday 😁
