Maybe I’m getting old and grumpy but Vera, what’s going on?

I’ve always assumed that these are like many catwalk items - ridiculous and wholly impractical but a signal as to what the prevailing trends are going to be. So these -hardly anyone will wear - but the look will be transformed into something more palatable by whoever is making more ‘bulk’ wedding dresses now (don’t know who that is, was Maggie and Ian Stuart in my day).

userabcname · 22/09/2019 11:20

Ooh very fairytale-esque. I like them but agree they don't look traditionally wedding-y.

BanKittenHeels · 22/09/2019 11:20

Do bear in mind that these dresses are for fashionable good looking people with expensive weddings.

I think you have to deconstruct the styling. Once you’ve taken away the very pale slight model and over elaborate veils they are generally more wearable. I don’t think the visible seams/corset look but if I was 24 and having an outdoor wedding somewhere beautiful it might fit my plans.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 22/09/2019 11:25

Love the dresses.

Too bad I have no use for them whatsoever.

xSharonNeedlesx · 22/09/2019 11:25

They look like they’ve been dipped in old tea bag water to become that colour.

Some of them are very pretty, most are god awful.

Crikey that gives "Away with the fairies" a whole new meaning. But more Summer in the Woodland than Winter wedding

YetAnotherSpartacus · 22/09/2019 11:27

Holy fuck those models need a good feed.

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 22/09/2019 11:29

It all looks a bit 'Miss Haversham' to me. All you need are the cobwebs Wink

DrVonPatak · 22/09/2019 11:29

Omg, they are DISGUSTING!!!

Jux · 22/09/2019 11:30

The blue one's just a decorated negligee. You could get similar from a lingerie department.

SirVixofVixHall · 22/09/2019 11:31

I hate the bustier style one, too lingerie like and revealing, but really love many of those. So beautiful.

NightsOfCabiria · 22/09/2019 11:36

Theyre not to my taste but they are fashionable and following the current Victorian/Romantic/Fairytale trend that’s around at the moment.

Look at the success of the zara nightie dress and ruffles and lace on everything generally.

It is hard to see this though when you think back to her beautiful earlier collections.

Arf! at Miss Haversham!

RightYesButNo · 22/09/2019 11:37

Actually, even Vogue ‘commented’ this season. Apparently, it’s all (the wedding dresses and her regular lines) supposed to be inspired by Louis XIV. But like Vogue said, “The Sun King isn’t trending this season; she’s out on her own this trip.” Sure, you can read it as meaning that other designers are doing something different but I’m definitely reading it, “No one can fucking stand this shoulder-pouffy shite.” It’s interesting when you can tell by Vogue’s writing they aren’t a big fan either: www.vogue.com/fashion-shows/spring-2019-ready-to-wear/vera-wang

Sparklesocks · 22/09/2019 11:39

Oh wow a lot going on there, but isn’t a lot of high end couture like that?

glitterbiscuits · 22/09/2019 11:42

I thought we were moving away from such thin models?
Is this high fashion?
It's not something I keep track of but I was quite surprised how very thin they were

Burningcheeks · 22/09/2019 11:46

I think they're gorgeous. There is space for all styles in the bridal marketplace. If no one liked her dresses she'd be out of business..

TypingoftheDead · 22/09/2019 11:48

I like a lot of them, but I wouldn't wear them for a wedding, winter or summer.
Now, if I were a fantasy film maker and was looking for costumes, they'd probably fit in really well.
The blue one in the photo does absolutely scream 'nightie' to me, however!

AsTheWorldTurns · 22/09/2019 11:49

I think many of them are beautiful, particularly the one with the red belt (I'm guessing most brides would ditch the red for ivory or similar).

justilou1 · 22/09/2019 11:49

I don’t hate MOST of them, but these tall, skinny fairies are also all standing on boxes.... What do they look like when they stand on the ground?

AsTheWorldTurns · 22/09/2019 11:50

It's normal for high-end labels to have some weird pieces, isn't it? They have to catch some editorial press.

MillfredTheGreat · 22/09/2019 11:50

I think the dresses are quite fun but I wish she wouldn’t use models that look like they’re about to keel over from starvation.

HeadintheiClouds · 22/09/2019 11:55

They’re awful. I can’t for the life of me grasp why they’d be less awful at an “expensive” wedding!!

MollyButton · 22/09/2019 11:55

The one that looks like a disembodied head stuck on some "tuile creation" is a look that even the model doesn't carry off. But also most of these might do for a "high fashion event" but not one that you might invite you Gran or Aunties to.
