NHS Band 2

AIBU to ask what my salary would be in a Band 2 NHS admin job?

The job says 17,652 - 19,020.

Would I automatically start on the lower or could they give me higher for any reason?

In a private sector job I’d assume I could negotiate within the salary range but I can’t seem to find out if that’s possible within NHS bands.

Any advice appreciated. I’m so confused Confused

Generally you start at the bottom and work up a band each year.

If already employed by nhs you’d transfer over at your current point though. You may be able to argue for a higher point within the band but they may not agree.

Bottom of the pay scale rising yearly if you pass your PADR and up to date mandatory training. If you are top of your band on another job and get a different job on a higher band, you slide across in to the mid band of your new job. In my health board that is Smile

Thank you @KipperTheFrog that’s what I thought but wasn’t sure. I’m not with the NHS yet so it’s all new.

Thank you @LashesZ that’s good to know.

I recruit within the NHS and would never appoint below band 4 unless at bottom of scale (unless an existing NHS employee) as I wouldn’t struggle to find suitable people so no need to negotiate.

You can always try and negotiate for higher than the bottom of the band, assuming you're not already working for the NHS. I've got some band 3's who I took on at mid point band 3, because that's what they asked for and I felt they were worth it. It's always good to try and negotiate salary, you've for nothing to lose.

That’s good to know @VioletCharlotte. It’s worth an ask.

If you can provide evidence that you’re on a salary above the lowest point of the band 2 scale, and you’re bringing transferable skills, then they can start you on a higher point.
