To ask if this is the periomenopause?

I am 39.

My periods were always very regular (28 day cycle, like clockwork) but now are 21 days.

Is it still possible to get pregnant?

YABU.
Post in the Menopause section.

peri19 · 21/09/2019 08:17

Thanks - I’m not sure it is the menopause, and also my questions are more about fertility and so on.

Yes very much you can get pregnant you have to have not had a period for a year to not require protection

peri19 · 21/09/2019 08:26

Thank you Smile

It’s frightening because I want to be pregnant and in essence visibly seeing my fertility decline is worrying and upsetting.

Speak to your GP. Go through your symptoms and they can request a blood test (did mine yesterday) and then a follow up.

Your periods picking up on frequency could be your body giving you more chances to conceive (can’t remeber where I read it, but apparently your ovaries gear up and throw more eggs out towards the end - it’s how my friend ended up with non identical triplets at 40)

Thanks single, that does make sense Smile

You should start clomid if you want to get pregnant. At 21 days your luteal phase may be too short to conceive.

Ilikeviognier · 21/09/2019 08:37

Ask for the fsh and amh test - they will tell you how many eggs you have left. Although that won’t tell you if you can get pregnant or not.

A change in periods alone isnt enough alone to say it’s peri menopause. Even if it is; you can get pregnant but it’s just more tricky.

Thank you

Mine have always been 21 days op, I got pregnant twice in my 30's with this cycle so on its own, not an actual issue.

Perimenopause has many other symptoms that present not just changes in cycle, if your not getting any other symptoms you might not be there yet.

peri19 · 21/09/2019 08:45

I really hope not, I am sorry for posting in the wrong board but I was really upset!

No need to apologise.
Glad you got some useful advise.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 21/09/2019 08:59

Don’t apologise-idiots like mini are always there trying to out other women down so they can think they look clever but really they just look like knobs.

I think it's significant that your periods have changed from 28 consistently, to a consistent 21. Irregular, random cycles seem to be more a perimenopause thing, but def get it checked out. Ignore any doctor who says anything to stall you. If it's important to you, you'll want clarity.
