Thomas cook should I rebook flights now

Connie5858 · 21/09/2019 06:57

Hello I am due to go on holiday on Wednesday. I have booked all the holidays as separates. Flying out with Thomas cook, hotel direct and home with easyJet.
I am very concerned about Thomas cook.
The flights leaving in a few days with another company are £60.
Should I book them or just wait and maybe lose the whole holiday if tc go bust and demand increases and I can’t get a flight.

I would book them. I couldn't cope with uncertainty and nor could I pay an inflated cost if it went kaput.

Gruzinkerbell1 · 21/09/2019 07:00

I would rebook for peace of mind.

PurpleFlower1983 · 21/09/2019 07:01

For £60 I think would book them because if Thomas Cook go bust those flights will go up immediately. As it stands you will only lose out on that £60 each for the flights.

Laura221 · 21/09/2019 07:04

Re book 100%

NewStart571 · 21/09/2019 07:05

For £60 I’d definitely rebook.

Connie5858 · 21/09/2019 07:08

I know £60 doesn’t sound a lot but we are both on the minimum wage

But having no flight and losing out on your holiday would be more expensive. I would book.

AdriannaP · 21/09/2019 07:15

It looks unlikely you will have flights on Wednesday. Even more unlikely you will have a return flight. Can you afford to stay longer if the return flight is cancelled? I wouldn’t risk it

@Connie5858 I understand that but at the same time I think there is a very real possibility that Thomas Cook might go into administration by Monday, hopefully not but it’s looking increasingly likely.

We’re due to go on the 5th October with them but I’ve been looking at alternatives.

PurpleFlower1983 · 21/09/2019 07:16

@AdriannaP OP is returning with EasyJet

Edwardbear1 · 21/09/2019 07:18

I would book the cheap flight. Tcook won’t be flying you

oceandrive · 21/09/2019 08:52

Hi OP I have just done the same and my flights were £200 return cost to rebook with Jet2. It's incredibly unlikely TC will be bailed out.

Diamc · 21/09/2019 16:12

I’ve got flights booked for Saturday with them. I used my Lloyds bank business debit card. I rang them to check the situation and was given a no chance and short sharp shrift !! Fortunately I have since found out that we are covered by our Lloyds personal account travel insurance!! My first call on Monday will be to our business bank manager !! There’s a certain lady they employ who needs retraining in customer CARE!!! It’s not looking good to be honest. :-(

HairyFloppins · 21/09/2019 16:13

Do it, I would.

Diamc · 21/09/2019 16:14

When you say alternatives?? Can I ask - Are you able to cancel yours for free??

Starisnotanumber · 21/09/2019 16:20

If you can book outward with easyjet then if a rescue package is announced you can cancel easyjet flights for 30.00 per booking within 24 hours.

NoHummus · 21/09/2019 16:23

Definitely book the other flights as you will more than likely need to use them.

Witchofzog · 21/09/2019 16:31

We have just booked another holiday too. We were on a TC package but flights with Easy Jet. I was under the assumption our flights would be ok as they were with Easyjet and we had a booking ref plus have checked in. However Easy Jet advised that if TC go under they may cancel our flights (and those of other TC customers) and claim the cost back via charge back leaving us to claim the cost through ATOL.

I couldn't bear the uncertainty so we have had to take the hit. If TC do go bust other holidays and flights will go up massively and will sell out quickly. I would definitely buy the other flights op- it's worth it for your peace of mind

MereDintofPandiculation · 21/09/2019 16:37

For the future (too late for this holiday if you don't already have it) look into Scheduled Airline Failure Insurance (SAFI) which will pay out if your airline goes bust, along with any irrecoverable costs, like hotels you've already paid for.

Theimpossiblegirl · 21/09/2019 16:41

Rebook, I know it's a lot from your budget but you will lose it all of you can't get there.

GruciusMalfoy · 21/09/2019 16:43

There's no chance I'd risk it for the sake of £60. Absolutely rebook.

LeggyLinda · 21/09/2019 16:48

I would book the £60 alternative flights.
I know it’s annoying, but at least that will be (hopefully) the least you’ll be out of pocket and you’ll get your trip and you’ll alleviate stress.
I know that’s easier said than done if you’re on minimum wage, but it’s about risk management and contingency plans. Once in place you may be able to get a refund for cancelled flights - you never know.
FWIW, I believe Thomas Cook will get through this and you’ll be fine, but that is a minority view and it’s always wise to have options.

Connie5858 · 21/09/2019 16:49

Thank you so much for your reply’s
I’ve taken your advice and have re booked them with easy jet an alternative airport
Liverpool instead of Manchester for £45

Connie5858 · 21/09/2019 16:49

I’m sure if they do go bust these flights would be expensive
