If we have left over food, like a full portion of casserole, I put it in a plastic carton, you know one of those microwaveable ones like you get from the takeaway, and it goes in the freezer. Making life a lot simpler when I don't want to cook a meal from scratch.

DH throws the bloody plastic cartons away cos he thinks they're disposable. I must have said a dozen times "please don't throw the cartons away" In fact maybe more.AAAARRRGGGGHHH!!!

So now we don't have any cartons left And a load of food has gone in the bin again. And he doesn't seem to realise how much easier it makes my life when theres stuff in the freezer. And he doesn't even put them in the effing recycling!!!!

Sooooooooooo crosssssss. Tell me I'm being unreasonable if you dare.

I don't get really cross very often. Calming down a bit now.

I suspect it is irrational to have one of my few shouting rages at him about a plastic carton. Red mist over tupperware.

Oh dear. Maybe I am being unreasonable.

Grrrrr.

Still fairly cross though.

Maybe you need to buy some more sturdy ones from the supermarket that don't look like they're disposable?

compo · 10/08/2007 19:28

write on them in permanent mrket 'do NOT throw away'

paulaplumpbottom · 10/08/2007 19:28

Its an easy mistake to make, try asking him calmly

Wilkie · 10/08/2007 19:29

YABU

PeachesMcLean · 10/08/2007 19:29

OK, if I promise not to growl any more, will anyone say whether I really am being unreasonable? Or would you be cross too?

Look, I'm smiling now, honest, look

My DH does exactly the same peaches, drives me potty!

He also uses them for other things like draining radiators into etc when there are tons of plastic tubs that are in the recycling bin.

They are such a handy size for in the freezer those tubs.

bookthief · 10/08/2007 19:32

No, YABU. It's a simple enough thing to remember. No real extra effort required on his part to do this easy thing that makes your life a little bit better.

I am sitting here practically quivering in outraged fellow feeling for you and giving my dh dirty looks in solidarity (he also throws away useful stuff, yet amazingly throws away nothing else.)

Would you like some of our plastic cartons. My DH has hoarded so many, I can't get that cupboard shut any more! That doesn't include the ones that are in use, in the freezer / fridge!

PeachesMcLean · 10/08/2007 19:40

MMM, yummy chocolate thanks Wilkie. Now that's much better now! And LOL Bookthief, your poor husband

To be fair, I've asked him many times, always very nicely, politely, not sarcastic. I think that's why I finally snapped. In fact, last time we went to his friend's house for a takeaway, DH commented that I always save ours. So he DOES know.

Will have to splash out on fancy ones now I guess. Or more takeaways

No, actually, I'm going to take DH to Lakeland Plastics and Make Him Pay For Them.

That should do the job.

OP posts:
SweetyDarling · 10/08/2007 19:51

So you had takeout and your DH cleaned up afterwards and now you're complaining?
Not so bad is it?
Pull them out of the bin if you want them.

PeachesMcLean · 10/08/2007 20:03

No, I cooked a proper meal. DH cleared up. That's his job. I cook, he washes up.

Bin surely too gross to go through.

IME DH's can deal with plastic items, they completly flumex them, don't know how to put them in the dishwasher and instead of putting away they ae left on the work top???/

bookthief · 10/08/2007 20:19

All bought tupperware type stuff in this household seems to end up being used for lunches by dh and never returns. I just know it's all filling a cupboard in the kitchen at his work.

Dh is starting to look slightly uncomfortable. I think the extreme irritation vibes are getting to him.

browniedropout · 10/08/2007 20:40

My DH much the same, utter//?:"'+-=*jibberish = recycling - no matter if reusing as in plastic containers or using the freely provided recycling bin collecting by council... just DHs.

adorabelle · 10/08/2007 21:04

I think you are most definately allowed to
be annoyed with your Dh if you have asked him on several occasions not to throw away the cartons, but he still does.

We live in such a disposible society and if more people were as concerned for our planet as you PeachesMcLean maybe we wouldn't have so many problems such as global warming, too many landfill sites, air/light/traffic polution etc.

Keep an eye on your own Carbon Footprint and that of your family too, you'll be amazed at how many small (everyday) changes you can make to be more environmentally friendly.

bookwormtailmum · 10/08/2007 21:23

We use old margarine pots here for leftovers - it's a minor miracle if you open one in the fridge and find margarine in it . They are usually labelled with what they are but not always. I've almost given up trying to educate my dp on recycling - he tends to lob it all in the same bin. He'll throw it away rather than store things.

If/when I move in with him, he'll get a shock . Separate bins for all types of household refuse and no excuse then.

elasticsortinghandstand · 10/08/2007 21:26

can no longer find margarine i like.
use take away cartons too. brill. and old squahsh bottles for picnics and days out, fill em with water or squash, hey presto
