DD played with powder paint in school today and ended up with blue hair, she loved it and Wants blue hair again. I’m considering buy some hair chalk for her, but DP thinks she might be too young. Obviously I wouldn’t use proper hair dye but are hair chalks just as bad? She’s got really blonde hair so they would show up really bright

I don't really know what they are but if they wash out then can't see the problem. I'd probably let my 4 and 2 year olds use them for a bit of fun

From what I can tell online it’s literally just chalk to rub onto their hair. It’s wash in wash out sort of stuff so I dont think there would be any damage to her hair. DP thinks other people might be a bit judgey about it

Don't do it. They are a massive hassle to wash out. Hair gets bit tangled up, goes on clothes. Yuk. Avoid.

The ones we have wash out fine! My daughter uses them for halloween, themed parties and nom uniform days.
Think she was about 3 when she first used them. We got the ones that look loke a comb - keeos your hands mess free! Jist bought them on ebay.

My DDs use them. Well I put them in. They're 2 and 4. I dye my hair but for them it's chalk until they're adults. They love it. I have no problems washing it out. It can transfer to clothes so I make sure they're not in something too precious. It's a bit of fun I'm quite happy. Make sure you keep them out of reach though or they'll be all over your house/dog/cat. Chalk can go quite far!

I was a bit worried about the mess, I’ll look into the comb ones. She fiddles with her hair a lot tho, is it likely to rub off all over her hands/fingers?

My 6yo loves hair chalk. Easy to do and will wash straight out

youarenotkiddingme · 19/09/2019 20:09

I think that's a fantastic idea. Kids should be exploring the wonderful world of colour and experimenting.
My ds had bath crayons as a toddler and drew all over the bath and tiles. I had so many people say it was encouraging him to draw on walls and furniture etc.
Yet ..... he's the only one of all my friends children who actually never did this!

One of mine (kids in my class) put black powder paint on his face the other day to have a beard and look like daddy 😭

My DD has them and loves them, but they do dry her hair out a lot!!

Isithometimeyet0987 · 19/09/2019 20:27

My dd loves hers my sister got her them for her birthday and she’ll take any chance to get them out. She’s blonde aswell and they show up quite well and wash out fine. She messes with her hair so I put it in and French plait her hair so she can see it in her hair but doesn’t really mess with it, not that to much rubs off and it’s never transferred to her clothes that I’ve noticed.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 19/09/2019 20:44

My 6yo covered her face in orange hair chalk thinking it was make up last week. So I would say keep out if reach (although she did ask if she could use her play make up from a magazine her grandmother had bought her!).

Apart from that, I've found them reasonably harmless!

GeePipe · 19/09/2019 20:45

Do it they wash out no problem. Is only a bit of chalk :)

Raisingwildanimals · 19/09/2019 20:59

Ooh thanks everyone. I’ll ordered some for her then!
