To despise Facebook marketplace

I’ve started using Facebook Marketplace for my DD baby stuff, selling it really cheap too eg £5 for a £50 walker so people are getting a good offer and my stuff is from smoke free home, all clean etc

People just seem to lose their brains when they’re on it! For example I had 15 + messages about the jumperoo, half were asking if it was available, I replied yes but no response. Fair enough not too annoying.
I had one conversation like this

Buyer: is this still available
Me: Yes it is
Buyer: Great. What’s your address?
Me: Gives address
Buyer: Thanks
4 hours pass
Me: Are you coming for it today
Buyer: No sorry
Me: okay, are you coming for it at all?
Buyer: I’m still thinking about whether I want it

Another conversation
Buyer: hey I can collect tomorrow!
Me: Great here’s my address
Buyer: thanks, I’ll message you in the morning with a time
one week passes with no message
i decide to drop the price
Buyer: Can I have this? Sorry I can’t get a lift up to you
five mins later
Buyer: I can’t get up to you but could you meet me at my work and drop it off to me?
Please note this is a huge jumperoo also selling for £5

Buyer: (8:07) is this still available?
Me: Yes it is (8:15)
Buyer: sorry you were too slow I’ve bought another now (8:17)

I’ve had loads more too like saying they’ll pick up today and then never showing.

I guess I’m just having a rant here but AIBU to feel irritated by people?

I’m also taking the stuff to the charity shop today as I just can’t be bothered with market place anymore! Haha

I've only used it once too.
Well, DD did for me. We bought a gazebo from eBay for £48, used it for around 3 hours for my mum's birthday. She then put it on Facebook for £45.
It was then sold and collected within 2 days. When they came to collect they handed over £50 and said "do you have change"
SIL was brilliant in his reply "I'm not a shop". So we made £2 on it

People are maddening. I buy and sell on there. Selling, I have the exact same problems. I once had a woman who kept asking me whether a dress I was selling would fit her. I gave her the size, the measurements, my view on whether it was small or not in the size... nothing was any good. She eventually just stopped replying. How on earth was I supposed to know?!

I have gotten things couriered on there, when buying, but only when I’ve sourced the courier - I’d never ask someone else to do that! People are mad.

People so often ask you to deliver. I'm not fucking Argos, mate. Next!

ThatssomebadhatHarry · 19/09/2019 18:40

Never give out address until they are on their way. I see a lot of people adding “No holds first to collect buys, no delivery” on the posts.

Iv had people not turn up and so sold the item on. Only for them to get really pissy with me days later when they decide they can be bothered.

The worst is selling electrical items like gadgets. The amount of don’t have cash will you take PayPal and post it to me I will pay for delivery msgs are unbelievable. It’s a well known scam.

For those giving stuff away try freecycle, have used it for years and is really good at getting rid of bulky items. Because it's freecycle piss takers are at a minimum, never had anyone ask me to send an item, collection seems be understood by all to be the way things are done

GracefulHare · 19/09/2019 19:19

This is why I no longer use marketplace or Ebay for selling. Just cannot be doing with the CFs & people that are ridiculously thick (or act like they are) I finally gave up after a series of ranting messages asking where the item was that she'd won & paid for...the day before. No understanding of posting times or anything! Just sod off. I just donate unwanted items straight to charity now

what's the lowest you'll go
2 foot and a fart mate

familycourtq · 19/09/2019 20:40

Sadly I had to give up freecycle because of the insane local list moderators who refused to post that an item was taken unless it had been collected. I needed to stop the flood of messages once I'd promised it to someone and I had a list of other candidates - but I didn't have all day to reply to people (and I did feel obliged since it wasn't their fault the item was still "available").

Does anyone ever wonder if Ebay and Gumtree tossers exist in the other countries where they operate? They made a version of Shameless for the US so maybe they do?
