Anyone in banking know the answer to this?

Posting for traffic.
My puppy has jumped up and got hold of a £20 note. He's torn it in half. When I press the halves together there's a triangle shape missing and I assume because I can't find it, he's eaten it.

Question is if I took the halves to a bank cashier could I hand it in, in return for an undamaged note or do I have no option but to bin it and write it off?

I've always thought that as long as the silver strip that runs through it is all there, it's fine, but I have no evidence for that!

You'll be fine, take it into the bank where you have an account, they'll credit your account and then debit your account and give you a new £20. Happens all the time!

Sellotape it together and get it exchanged. As long as the majority of the note is present it should be fine

The Bank of England can change it for you, subject to certain criteria:

The silver strip is dangling by a thread attached to one of the halves!

I only know because my dog ate quite a lot of money when he was a puppy!

You dont need to send to the BofE, just go to your own bank

I've worked as a bank cashier and we'd exchange notes as long as they had both serial numbers on, even if bits of the note were missing. If not then we'd give you the form to post it to the Bank of England.

Any bank will exchange it as long as you have 3/4 of the note had to do this a couple of times as ds loved to eat money
