£370 for gymnastic fees ridiculous?!

My son has been offered a place at a gymnastics club. The fees are £370 every 3 months. For a 3 hour lesson once a week. He is really gifted in gymnastics and would love him to do it but the cost just seems so extortionate. So stuck with what to do. Anyone else's children do gymnastics? Can i ask what you pay?

Ours is 40 per month for one hour a week so roughly the same per hour

£24 per month for an hour per week.

Ours cost less proportionately an hour as they did more, so we pay 40something for 2 hours but its not quite 100 for 4 a month

Have you considered enquiring with other local gym clubs as to what their fees are. I imagine, like many things, it could be location dependent.

Just a warning though.... I dont know his age but it increases quite quickly if very gifted. Friend's children at 6/7 are doing 6hours...

Works out about £10 an hour then, which is quite reasonable. Does it include his British Gymnastics membership or is that additional?

Is it Mayfield?! If so they have a huge waiting list so if you won’t oay it, countless others will.
Yes it’s crazy but supply and demand tend to dictate these things, annoying as it is.

So about £125 per month for 12 hours of lessons - doesn’t sound bad to me

Although very gifted, my son has only ever done gymnastics at school and he went to a boys open day at our nearest gymnastics club over a week ago and received an email from them today saying they would like to offer him a place in their '9 hour development group' (not sure what that is) and that its a 3 hour lesson weekly, and the fee is £370 monthly then we will need to pay £20 annual club membership AND pay for a British Gymnastics membership!

That’s ridiculous. We pay £8 for a two hour class every week. £4 an hour. At £10 an hour I would be expecting no more than five in a class. Be careful though...if they want him to do elite training then it’s a minimum of ten hours a week round here.

I’ve been sucked in before with martial arts. Was told my daughter was really talented etc. Turns out they say this to every parent!!!

Yes. My friends child went into squad and it’s £350 per term. She’s the most incredible gymnast and she’s 6

We were paying less than that until recently I think for my DC at a club near Telford for more hours (9 hours). DC has 'retired' now and coaches instead. There are a couple of good clubs in the area. Is this artistic or acro?

Actually might have been around same based on that being termly but was for more hours.

Take him to other gymnastics club and see if he really is as good. Are they exaggerating to manipulate you to pay??? Do you think he’s really good?

That’s about right- but I would guess it is 3, 3 hour classes per week. Most squads will train for at least 9 hours a week from they are about 7

My DS was in development squad and fees varied between 60-100 pounds per month depending on how much training required (usually closer to the 100 mark). Some of the PPs might be referring to rec class fees. BG and club membership was extra as was squad uniform. My advice? Don't do it!!! It takes over your family life and bank balance. We pulled him out when there was talk of competitions that would require time off school, this made us come to our senses.

£32 a month plus annual membership to club £40 and annual British gymnastics fee. This is for a one hour lesson a week.

To me this is a lot of money. I would be saying no to the place you have been offered as it seems very expensive.
