Buying a used Range Rover Evoque with bodywork modifications

After seeing the car advertised online on Autotrader, I went to see it this morning. It's 4 years old and had 2 previous owners. I'd probably keep it for 5 years. I noticed though that some of the exterior has been modified - i.e. badge, grille, bumper, wheels are black. It's a bit like the official 'black exterior pack' from Range Rover, which is what I thought it might have been originally.

Would I be unreasonable to buy it? i.e. is it likely to have been owned by a boy racer who did the mods, and maybe ragged around?? Or would this affect its resale value?

when out of warranty parts are so expensive

Does anyone buy official RR parts on an out of warranty car? There's a strong aftermarket in OEM spares, usually made by Britpart, which are perfectly OK for an older car. Plus people on eBay breaking down accident-damaged cars into their reusable spares.

You may be able to sell the 22" wheels & tyres to someone wanting to tart up their car, and buy original wheels and tyres cheap from someone who has just upgraded - and pocket some money on the deal.

22 inch wheels will be a pain in the arse- my husband put them on a previous 4x4 we had and they can’t be changed on a lot of standard tyre changing machines so have to go to commercial place.
Two of my friends had evoques when they came out- the top of the range ones and both changed very quickly as didn’t like them. One got a proper Range Rover instead and one a Discovery- prefer both a lot more.

Just checked and the 22 inch wheels weren't aftermarket - they were part of the spec on the original car. I don't like the sound of specialist wheel changing though... sounds very inconvenient and expensive.

not trying to be negative but body mods can really affect the price as repairs may cost more or car may be more stealable. Go for it by all means,YOLO, but do your homework first so you dont get a nasty shock. My neighbour had a Range Rover Dark and it looked good but was factory made, it was also the most expensive car for repairs they ever had, theyve got a bmw now

Quite a common mod OP, there's one round here that's been vinyl matt blacked.
Best of luck but you will need really really deep pockets.

In all seriousness, they're a great car!

AKA the hairdressers car

They are not a serious SUV

Pottering around town- style over function.

LifeExperimentation · 18/09/2019 20:49

@EndoftheWorlds I’m not a hairdresser... but if I was, I’d still totally get one.

By a mile the best car I’ve ever owned was an Evoke - reliable, comfortable and with good interior.

It’s not supposed to be an suv - it’s a roomy comfy car.
