Would you classify this bin as being "put out" for collection or is it too far from the kerb?

Our bin collectors would have taken it. They are lovely though, and waited for me to bring my bin out when I'd forgotten it was bin day - although they did laugh when I came flying out of the house in my nightie and slippers Blush

WhatTiggersDoBest · 17/09/2019 21:05

Ours wouldn't have taken it. I don't think it's reasonable or fair, but that's how ours do things.

SuzieQ10 · 17/09/2019 21:19

Put it out properly. I don't understand why you'd leave it like this and expect it to be regarded as 'out'.

baldpate · 17/09/2019 21:20

Ours collect if you’ve forgotten from the garden so they would have collected that one- it makes up for the time they wrote piss off in the snow on top when ours was too heavy last year 😂

TheRobinIsBobbingAlong · 17/09/2019 21:31

Depends on the rules where you live. In my area they'd take that as the bin has to be at the front of your property but not blocking the pavement, so that would be fine. In a neighbouring town they have to be put on the edge of the pavement bordering the road, so councils differ.

Mummyshark2018 · 17/09/2019 21:38

It's not out. Doesn't look like the owners want it to be emptied.

stucknoue · 17/09/2019 21:40

Gosh , we are lucky, they take them from our drives here, weekly too

mineofuselessinformation · 17/09/2019 21:44

I'd put it further along the pavement, away from the gates.
This is what I do so I can safely get in and out of my own driveway.
I don't expect the bin collectors to have to walk on my property to collect my bin.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 17/09/2019 21:53

Before we moved that wouldn't have been collected at the arm of the lorry wouldn't have reached it. They had to be lined up along the pavement. Our road was too narrow so we had to take them to the junction.

JollyAndBright · 17/09/2019 22:06

It entirely depends on the areas.

Where I used to live if you bin wasn’t by the kirb it didn’t get emptied, even if that meant having to put it so it almost completely blocked the footpath, it was ridiculous, I hated making it difficult for people in wheelchairs or with pushchairs to get by but in the end we just accepted that it was what we were expected to do and everyone else had to do it too.
(It was especially ridiculous because there was a small grass verge between the footpath and the driveways/front gardens where the bins could be put ‘out’ and not be in the way, but they wouldn’t get emptied if we put them there.

Were we live now is the complete opposite, we put the bins at the end of our drive and the bin men put the at the top of the drive by the gate (we store them behind the gate)

The bin men have even been known to open the gate and fetch the bins out if we’ve forgotten to put them out (they will do it for anyone if they know where the bins are kept and it’s easily accessible.

Our bin men are lovely, they are always friendly and always have a smile and say hello.
We always buy them a gift at Christmas as a thank you for being so great.

FenellaVelour · 17/09/2019 22:27

Our bin men would’ve taken it, but then they came into our garden to take them last week when we completely forgot to put the bins out as we’d been up in hospital with my dad.

Lonecatwithkitten · 17/09/2019 22:38

Ours is very specifically kerbside so as marked by the X, also have detailed instructions that the handle must be turned to face the road to assist speed of collection.

Or rather are the Council?
KellyHall · 17/09/2019 23:36

Our bin men open our bin store, take the bins out to empty them, put them back in and close the bin store gate afterwards! We live on a busy road with a narrow pavement so there's no other workable option.

I'd say we were lucky if all of this wasn't done at 5am on a Monday morning - I hardly ever remember to shut my windows on a Sunday night!

tabulahrasa · 17/09/2019 23:52

It’s not out at all...

And you could have put it on the kerb, but over not in front of the drive to still get the car up.

boptist · 18/09/2019 00:00

Ours wouldn’t, strictly kerbside only.

Could someone explain,

A) The “supply and fit” references.

B) How this placement is better for the car turning in than either of the blue cross positions.

Bringonspring · 18/09/2019 00:09

No not out and your others photos do not looking exciting!

zxcvhjkl · 18/09/2019 00:22

No it's not out, it's just having a tentative peek.

For ours to go it would need to be at least to the join of the brick drive and tarmac pavement.

Neveam · 18/09/2019 00:59

I assume that when the bin isn't out its behind the gate?
So if I saw that I'd say it was put out for collection. Do they want you to put it in the road to see it?

They took the picture? They could have taken the bloody bin and stopped being pathetic.

Angeldust747 · 18/09/2019 01:06

If they took a picture then I'd say they knew it needed emptying and were being jobsworths!
