To not answer the door during the day if I'm not expecting anyone

Anyone else not answer the door if they're alone at home and not expecting anyone?

There was someone that knocked twice then sat outside in their car for 20 mins.

My house is for sale, but the sign is down and been marked as sold for 2 months now.

Should I have answered it? They didn't post a note through the door or anything so I didn't think it was important 🤷‍♀️

Plus the Jehovah's Witnesses have been knocking for years and years and I've never once said more than not interested or no thank you so you would think they would have got the message by now

Would one of those signs work? No callers? They sound excessive coming by that often.

I have anxiety so, I don't answer the door to anyone when DP isn't in. I have, in the past, sat and watched people through a tiny gap in the curtain whilst messaging DP describing everything that is happening. I will then think about it for days afterwards if I don't know who it was. Despite the fact that I could find out quite easily, if I just opened the door.

You absolutely don't have to answer random knocks on the door. Knocking on the door is an invitation - you don't have to respond!

God help anyone running to your door for help in an emergency? What a bunch of weird rude people.
@Thehouseintheforest you crazy person you🤣🤣

They'd have to call or write 3 days in advance.

Most days a friend, family member or neighbor will pop in. Most of the time In summer my doors wide open anyway so they just let themself in!

I can’t imagine not answering the door. It could be amazon or someone lost or in need of help.

@Aussiebeauty the lot on a Wednesday are different to the lot on a Saturday. You can set the clock by them 10.20am Wednesday and 9.05am Saturday. They knock on every door regardless of the signs my neighbours have up anyway. Nobody answers the door to them as far as I can see anyway probably because they meet the clock religously Grin.

One day when the doorbell rang unexpectedly it was my neighbour's daughter with a bowl of home made cheesecake for me. Grin

I never answer the door if I'm not expecting anyone so don't think it's unusual! Wouldnt notice if they were sitting outside for 20 mins after though I have to say!

AudacityOfHope · 17/09/2019 20:50

You don't have time to answer the door, but you do have time to start and continue a whole thread about the mysterious nature of it all.

This is such an MN thing. Nobody in real life is this fucking arbitrarily bonkers.

Ohflippineck · 17/09/2019 20:52

Nope, don’t answer uninvited callers. We’ve a safe place for parcels, a large post box and I don’t need any more dusters or gadgets to get spiders out of the bath.

YANBU. I never answer the door unless I'm expecting a delivery or similar (we never have visitors). It's only ever going to be a salesperson or similar so there's no point.
