Weeing in the night and losing my hair

cjt110 · 17/09/2019 10:35

posted here for traffic I suppose.

I have rarely ever got up in the night for a wee. Usually go before bed and then when I get up.

For the past week or so I have been getting up in the night with what feels like a very full bladder and having a decent sized wee.

Not drinking more at night, or through the day than normal.

I also noticed when washing my hair the other day, that I am losing some. Enough to say "Oh!" was left behind after washing.

Are these something to be concerned about?

I think you should phone yourGP surgery for an advice call .

recrudescence · 17/09/2019 10:40

Seek a medical opinion from a properly qualified person.

Basil90 · 17/09/2019 10:43

Hi OP, these symptoms sound like they could be related to poor blood sugar control and possibly a sign of diabetes? I think you should make a GP appt

justilou1 · 17/09/2019 10:48

I think you definitely need to see your GP about this one.

cjt110 · 17/09/2019 11:50

I wasn't sure if it was an age related thing... getting older.

How old are you? Are you at the age where you might be menopausal or peri-menopausal? Because thinning hair and bladder weakness can both be symptoms. Thyroid imbalances also cause hair to fall out, so worth asking for a blood test.

Either way - you should see your GP.

HasThisSoddingNameGoneToo · 17/09/2019 11:54

I've started needing a pee at night too. The past week, I've woken up anytime between 12am and 5am, needing a pee.

I don't know if my hair is thinning, although I definitely had that when my iron levels dropped last year due to flooding.

HasThisSoddingNameGoneToo · 17/09/2019 11:55

Hogs the thread I'm 48, and a few months ago I started needing a pee at night. When I started taking Menopace vitamins, I stopped needing to.

I still take them, but the night Pees are back!

GlassSuppers · 17/09/2019 12:08

It's a doctor that you need, Mumsnet can't help you here I'm afraid Thanks

Ask your GP for a full panel blood tests including vitamins, iron etc and thyroid.

cjt110 · 17/09/2019 13:14

I have an underactive thyroid, ME and a few more conditions. I'm 32.

OP posts:
Justcallmebebes · 17/09/2019 13:32

I was going to say peri-menopausal but then saw your age so most probably not. See your GP

BarbariansMum · 17/09/2019 13:34

If you were 52 I'd say "welcome to the perimenopause". At 32 I'd say "go to your gp, sounds like it might be related to your thyroid ".

BeerandBiscuits · 17/09/2019 13:51

Ask your GP for a full panel blood tests including vitamins, iron etc and thyroid.
Would love to see my GPs reaction if I asked this Shock.
Am in the UK so perhaps different in other countries.

Ponoka7 · 17/09/2019 13:57

BeerandBiscuits, it depends on your GP. Mine would be happy to do that and often has for me.

OP it sounds as though it could be your thyroid. See who you'd normally see for a review and bloods etc.

MyNameIsArthur · 17/09/2019 14:12

Good idea to see your GP. You might also want to have a look at the autoimmune disease forum on MN. You can find it under Health. You might find it helpful Flowers

MummytoCSJH · 17/09/2019 14:16

I have this. Went for a full blood test and nothing and doctor won't do anything more. I was actually told it's probably an emotional response to stress Hmm

Londonmummy66 · 17/09/2019 14:18

BeerandBiscuits I'm in the UK and I don't need to ask - my GP is forever running them on me. It is a pretty routine procedure so I can't see what the problem is. If your GP is that unhelpful perhaps you should change GPs.

BarbaraofSeville · 17/09/2019 14:32

Same here mummy. I leave a great clump of hair in the drain every time I have a shower and need the toilet in the night at almost exactly 1 am, 3 am and 5 am on the dot, every single night and tests for diabetes, thyroid etc all show nothing wrong.

dollydaydream114 · 17/09/2019 14:59

Underactive thyroid often causes hair loss, OP - so maybe you need your thyroid medication adjusting, if you’re on any.

justilou1 · 18/09/2019 11:29

Could be a vitamin or mineral deficiency/malabsorption issue associated with ME. If you have autoimmune issues, that’s not uncommon. Should come up
In bloods.
