I have 2 children aged 6 and 2. I’ve just done the weekly shop with the below meal plan in mind but after reading a recent thread on here I’m worried that it’s not healthy enough for them/ there is too many Carbs involved. Please tell me honestly if it’s okay/ the kind of thing a “normal” family eats:

Tues- Roast Chicken, mashed potatoes, carrots, peas and broccoli.
Wed- Quorn spaghetti Bolognese

Thurs- Baked potatoes, cheese and beans.

Fri- Burgers and chips

Sat- chicken and veg fajitas with refried beans

Sun- Fishcakes, sweet potato wedges and corn on the cob.

Mon- Pizza, coleslaw and salad.

Use roasted parsnips or carrots instead of chips with the burger.

Sounds fine to me. Burgers and chips are fine once a week, you don’t have to replace yummy chips with veg! You’re not eating them every day.

My menus is probably less healthy than yours. But with working full time and the kids having clubs every evening, sometimes you can’t cook from scratch.

Looks fine to me. Maybe stick some lettuce/onion/tomato in the burger if your DCs like those things. If not it's fine, they won't die if they don't have veg with every single meal.

I think that sounds fine, I know the thread you mean. I think people have gone a bit bonkers when it comes to feeding kids! On the one side you've got people having takeouts/biscuits/crisps every day and on the other hand spicy veg stew only!? Wtf!! What happened to just having normal food, and an active lifestyle!?

We are having this week:
Sunday: toad in the hole with carrots, broccoli and peas
Monday: homemade chicken and sweet corn pizza (was meant to have it with salad but that went out the window)
Tuesday: Spag Bol with salad
Wednesday: chicken casserole with loads of veg or similar at my mums but kids didn't really eat much last week
Thursday: we are going out so kids have a toddler ready meal chicken pie + peas.
Friday: will eat out somewhere so whatever they fancy, maybe spag Bol or chicken nuggets etc.
Saturday: pork chops on BBQ, new pots and salad

For breakfast they normally have some kind of bread product, pancakes, wraps, bread, bagel, with butter / peanut butter. Sometimes weatabix. Normally some fruit.

Lunch is at school / nursery.

Forgot to mention kids will have 2 desserts this week as well. First one will be Ginger Snaps with yoghurt and tinned Peaches and the second one will be Butterscotch Angel Delight, choc chips and banana.

Feel much better knowing they are relatively normal meals so thank you.

Can someone link the thread you are all referring to out of curiosity?

Looks fine to me! Ours is:

Tues pitta pizza
Wed Out
Thurs slow cooked beef, mash and veg
Fri Meal out (husbands birthday)
Sat stuffed peppers
Sun roast dinner
Mon pizza topped chips
Tues veggie pad thai
Wed jacket potatoes with beans and cheese
Thurs quorn nuggets, homemade chips and salad

I'm not normally out so much. Busy week!
I'm following slimming world so the whole family are attempting to eat the same.

Treaclepie19 · 17/09/2019 07:35

And most of that is chosen week upon week because we have a fussy 4 year old.

Stiltons my kids would love that pizza wrap too! They’ll eat anything if it’s on a wrap 😁

Last week I did peanut butter chicken wraps, which went down well, but I need to perfect the sauce. I basically grilled and sliced the chicken, then put it out with a bowl of chopped lettuce, shredded cucumber and spring onions, and then made a sauce from peanut butter, soy and honey. Then they built their own wraps.

We also did pizzas last night on the Sainsbury’s thin and crispy readymade bases, which were really good. I had tomato sauce in the freezer but I’ve just used tomato purée before in a pinch, and then whatever’s in the fridge for toppings. If you make sure you always have the bases in the freezer and mozzarella on the fridge then that’s an easy one.

In the winter I tend to do slow cooker stews - mainly beef with recognisable veg like carrots. They react better to that than when veg is cut up small and “there are too many BITS” 🙄

I also do a roast chicken quite often - with veg in winter and baguette/pasta salad in summer - and baked salmon with noodles/rice and broccoli/carrot/corn on the cob goes down well.
