Very recently taken over as a manager of a couple of shops, previous manager had been there for a long time. Today I went in and saw that they had put their name down on the staff Christmas party list. I have no issues with them as I barely know them but personally I think it's a bit off going along. I wouldn't do this. Aibu?

YANBU because I always think that if someone is no longer a serving staff member then they shouldn't be allowed to take part in company activities.

That said, if they have been there for years then perhaps they are using the Christmas meal as their final outting with old colleagues. I'd let it go because it doesn't directly affect you.

happinessischocolate · 16/09/2019 19:11

It depends if they've retired or are now working somewhere else.

If retired I wouldn't think it's a problem, if they're now working elsewhere then they need to move on

AussieBeauty · 16/09/2019 19:13

I don't see it as a problem. They probably still have friends there if they've worked for a long time. Maybe using this as their last social event with the team?

Is work paying? If so they ABU

Manth0914 · 16/09/2019 19:17

Left for a new job. Only had their own leaving party 2 or 3 weeks ago. I plan on seeing my previous colleagues at christmas time but not on their designated Christmas night out. Just seems a weird thing to do to me.

So who's paying?

Manth0914 · 16/09/2019 19:29

Staff pay for food and a few rounds of drinks paid for by company (I think).

It's not really odd, I am leaving my job in a couple of weeks and I am going to go to the Christmas party. A couple of other ex colleagues who have retired are going too. It will be a nice chance to catch up and see everyone.

AlwaysCheddar · 16/09/2019 20:11

If it’s paid for by the company then take her name off the list.

Cornettoninja · 16/09/2019 20:12

I think it’s off tbh, especially when the company is footing the bill.

I’m a grinch who actively avoids work Christmas parties though so what do I know! Grin

happyasasandboy · 16/09/2019 20:24

In my organisation we invite people who have left during the year to the Christmas party. So you get invited to one Christmas party after you've left. It's nice to see them again, and I guess the Christmas party is kind of a celebration of the end of the year and they worked for the company during that year.

Different customs for different organisations :)

crustycrab · 16/09/2019 20:24

If work are paying then it's not on really. Otherwise I don't think it's weird. Nice to have a catch up
