What would you do if you had a 2 year sabbatical?

Just that really!
I keep thinking of things I want to do but lack self motivation. I’d quite like to wake up in the morning fluent in several languages, able to paint masterpieces and have a finished novel without actually putting the effort in Grin

Travel anywhere and everywhere.

If it weren't for Brexit (and associated immigration worries)
I'd take the DC to my old village in Italy to be outdoorsy and learn Italian (and me too, I can speak it but not really read and write). And my nonnas 85 so it'd be nice to share the caring duties.

I'd have to have lots of money so DH could easy jet to visit us every other weekend or so.

That sounds amazing!

What's your budget?

StarkintheSouth · 16/09/2019 14:40

Travel for sure, do some serious long haul stuff. Read. Maybe some more postgrad study or learn a new skill. Oh I would love a sabbatical!

Unfortunately it’s a hypothetical sabbatical. I’m a full time carer for my son, he’s been out of school for years but is going to be having tuition and a social group so I’ll actually have some time to myself. I would like to do something with that time but I don’t think I’ll manage a trip to Italy with it!

I’d like to do a Masters but I couldn’t afford that on my full salary, let alone while on sabbatical, so I’d probably focus on writing the book I’ve always wanted to write and getting the house done up.

Greeni · 16/09/2019 14:56

What type of book would you write Dolly?
I must have started writing a hundred books but I never seem to get past chapter 5!

I took a year out a few years ago, my then partner travelled extensively with his career (often a different country each day), so I went with him. If I hadn’t we would have maybe had six weeks together over the entire year.

It was brilliant to be in amazing places with someone amazing.

In that case--
*a college course, art class etc. something interesting where you can meet new people
*volunteer

  • join a walking club / book club / knitting group *write a book
