To feel clueless about buying sports sunglasses?

DS (13) plays an outdoor ball sport and needs to wear sports sunglasses when he plays. He loses or breaks at least one pair every year so I don't like to pay more than £30ish. I normally get them from Amazon, but of course it's notoriously difficult to know whether you're getting a quality product from there. DS would like his next pair to be polarised, and the prices range from under a tenner to over a hundred. Apart from just picking something that looks cool in the right price range with decent reviews, how on earth do I choose? Can anyone recommend a brand that doesn't cost the earth but ticks the boxes.

Under 16s are supposed to get properly fitted by an optician. Could you go to a high st optician and see if that's something they sell

Goodr sunglasses are excellent.

Decathlon do good ones fairly cheaply. My dh has a pairand he's been impressed with them.

If he is still losing them, get the cheapest.

Never mind that he wants polarised, he can get better/more specialised when he doesn't lose them so much.

Try Decathlon - good quality for the prices (esp the cycling sets with changeable lenses with different tint for different conditions)

Also get one of the neoprene straps to keep them on his head (removing one point of potential loss)

Thanks, I looked at Decathlon. Their glasses range from £4 to £35, which is very cheap. Assuming they do the job, does that mean that more expensive glasses are just all designer branding and no other benefits? I'm a bit Hmm that they have categorised them by sport, with everything from hiking to hockey to kite surfing. There is one pair labelled with DS's sport but with no explanation as to why they have that label, so perhaps it's just so they come up on Google when people are looking for sport-specific glasses.

I’d take him to Decathlon, get him to try some on and jump around and see if they come off.

I suspect they are brand specific when it comes to prices.

Why do under 16s need to be fitted by an optician for sunglasses @dementedpixie? I mean you can buy toddler sunglasses for about a quid in most supermarkets....
