Sorry tmi!

How do I know which it is? 35 weeks. Had a couple of supervision for reduce foetal movement. Now discharge is more watery than before. How do I know if I'm leaking amniotic fluid?

Good luck! My waters went spontaneously at 35wks, DS born 3days later. I don’t remember there being a particular smell and I made it to the toilet in time but remember the toilet bowl being clear (no urine yellow) and I couldn’t stop the flow like I could wee. Also didn’t manage to get my pants off in time so caught the plug in my pants Grin luckily DM is a retired midwife so made sure I took the dirty pants in a bag and put a pad on which MAU inspected all of.

I've had two pregnancies where my waters broke quite early. The amniotic fluid I leaked was pale yellowish in colour and definitely smelled a bit like hay or straw. Sweetish and quite pleasant, and not at all like wee (or sperm, as someone upthread said). I lost a little bithardly any at allat first, and then a few days later I lost a proper gush of it. So volume isn't necessarily an indicator of your waters having broken. I'd speak to a midwife at the very least because if your waters have broken there's a risk of infection, and you have to be monitored. (Oh, and don't have a bath, just showers, just in case.)

Get some rest OP. Hope you have your hospital bag ready (just in case). My sister’s water broke at 35 weeks. Small trickle - underwear kept getting wet. They finally went to the hospital around 1am. DN was born at 9am :)

Op, how are you doing?

Howdidido · 20/09/2019 15:40

Back home after being in hospital for monitoring but embarrassingly it wasn't waters broken... Blush

Thanks for all the advice though! Definitely feel more prepared if they do go.

Thanks for the update, OP!
Glad everything is okay, enjoy the last weeks before baby appears Smile

Dont worry OP with my first I was convinced my waters had gone while I was driving... turns out she was just pushing down on my bladder and I had peed myself without realising.

Oh the glamour! Best of luck with the last few weeks Smile
