AIBU to think maternity wear isn’t designed for short people?

I’m five foot two and look like a football in most maternity wear.. and I’m only 23 weeks!
Maybe it’s because I’m not big enough yet but I can’t seem to find ANYTHING that is flattering.
Because I’m quite petite - or I was before I started stacking weight on Grin - everything also seems to be big across shoulders and back.
I’m just grumpy because I’m feeling gross and was hoping a few new bits would make me feel a bit better but they’ve done the opposite!

Same height. I'm 31 weeks.I look like I ate a beachball and I've been tested for GD - nope, just a big baby.

Mothercare Blooming Marvellous have been v good for me - I just roll up the jeans. H&M also ok. New Look online do decent t-shirts.

However, I think maternity clothes are generally a bit crap - I get most of mine as bundles from eBay - at least I'm noy paying full price for clothes I don't like.

Oh and don't get me started on Breton stripes - who in their right mind thinks that an expanding woman wants to wear horizontal stripes?!

SugarMiceInTheRain · 15/09/2019 17:14

I had that problem. Im just under 5ft. Very few places stock maternity wear, never mind petite maternity wear. I second the idea of buying bundles on Ebay. My favourite maternity jeans and trousers that I wore for work came in an Ebay bundle.

Shelby30 · 15/09/2019 17:22

Just trousers are hard to find. I'm 5ft1 and Size 8 and I've found it fairly easy to buy stuff. Jeans need to be from Topshop as I can get leg 28 there but new look also do that size.

Maternity wear isn't the best in general but I'm not finding it difficult just because I'm not smaller.

I've never seen any nice ebay bundles, they might be cheap but god the stuff is mainly horrible. I've bought most stuff from New Look or my normal size in more floaty tops and a couple of stretchy dresses.

53rdWay · 15/09/2019 17:26

It’s rubbish. Next do some okay stuff.

OnlyLittleMissOrganised · 15/09/2019 18:01

I'm 4ft9 and I was a little round before I got pregnant. I'm now 32 weeks and was finding it super difficult to find clothes. The maternity jeans are made for people with skinny legs! I've managed to find some non maternity stretchy dresses that will work for my expanding bump. I just wish the maternity clothes companies would make them for everyone not just standard size!

Purplequalitystreet · 15/09/2019 18:39

Same here. I'm 38 weeks and have really struggled with clothes. I'm 5ft 2. Mothercare do short leg length jeans but they were pretty much the only ones I could find. I've mostly lived in stretchy maxi dresses

JohnLapsleyParlabane · 15/09/2019 18:43

I'm 4' 11". My maternity jeans came from funmum online

Nomad86 · 15/09/2019 18:45

Im 6ft tall but have similar problems. It's virtually impossible to find maternity trousers to fit.

stairway · 15/09/2019 18:49

I’m your height and never bothered with maternity wear, just bought stretchy clothes.

TrainQuestions · 15/09/2019 18:52

I'm tall and could say the same thing about it not being made for tall people.

Nonotmenori · 15/09/2019 18:56

I got quite a lot from Asos and new look. And peacocks too

Fantababy · 15/09/2019 20:33

ASOS have some petite maternity wear but I found a lot of tops absolutely huge and very long. I bought size 12 or medium (non maternity) H&M shirts which I found very big made and wore them over (again, non maternity) stretchy vests.

ESC2197 · 15/09/2019 20:37

Peacocks is great for jeans/jeggings

EmAreSea · 15/09/2019 20:59

I’ve got all my maternity wear on eBay. It’s all Seraphine- mostly those knot front dresses in a few styles/colours and a few pairs of over-bump jeans, the maxi dress I can only wear with heeled shoes, the jeans I have to turn up at the bottom, but the knee length dresses are lovely.
I’m 5’5” (and a half, if anyone’s counting) and a size 10.
Rather distressingly, my chub rub meant I’d destroyed one pair of jeans in less than 2 months!

Wafflecopter · 15/09/2019 21:06

I’m 5’2, 31 weeks, and I’m sick of looking like the hamburgler but with crinkly drumstick legs because they’re being squeezed to death by skinny jeans that are too long for me.
I hate skinny jeans and bloody stripes! Angry
Thank God it’s getting colder and I can start wearing jumpers again.
I honestly can’t wait to burn (dramatic, I’ll just donate) those fucking jeans when I can get back into my old ones again.

IndianaMoleWoman · 15/09/2019 21:06

I can assure you they are certainly not made for tall people either!

SuperBizzyMum · 15/09/2019 21:15

I'm 5ft and look very round. I was a size 8 when I fell pregnant but always seem to get ravenous and pile on the weight in pregnancy (expecting my 5th in Dec). Maternity clothes are very hot and miss and over the years I've found better luck with loose non maternity styles.

MindatWork · 15/09/2019 21:16

I’m sick of looking like the hamburgler but with crinkly drumstick legs because they’re being squeezed to death by skinny jeans that are too long for me.

@Wafflecopter I’m sorry but I am dying laughing at this Grin

WhyBirdStop · 15/09/2019 21:49

I'm 5'9 and it was all too short for me, and designed on the presumption that I would suddenly develop huge boobs, which even after nine months of BF I haven't!

Amanduh · 15/09/2019 22:04

Yep, 5’9 here too and they’ve added some extra material to the width of things and that’s it. Can’t find anything remotely long enough or with any correct proportions! To be fair, last time I was pregnant it was summer and I just wore stretchy skirts and maxi dresses and didn’t buy anyhing maternity. Looks like i’ll just be wearing normal stretchy-ish winter clothes in a bigger size this time!

1ToughCookie · 15/09/2019 22:31

I'm a short hourglass with wide shoulders and thick thighs. So anything floaty makes me look fat. Ironically I found it was best to emphasize the bump with stretchy Tee's and jeggings. That worked until the last few weeks, then the few trousers that did fit rolled down my bump then continued down my bum. So I had to do stretchy dresses instead.

I struggle to fit into even trousers made for short length. My inseam is only 22" at the top of ankle. 24" reaches the top of my foot. So that means I have to hem short sizes!

Maternity jeans definitely didn't fit. The jeggings though were ok because I can rock the ruffled ankles look.

I bought my clothes off eBay. Some were gems. Some were horrific. But the price was satisfactory.

Guess you could say that after maternity wear, I realized how much I care about my own fashion sense.

Maternity clothes are all devoid of all character!

KittyCat2412 · 16/09/2019 00:39

I recommend Top Shop jeans. They are super comfy. I am 5ft 2 and have a beach ball bump. They do for short leg. And the sizing is amazing. You just wear your normal size and band goes around. But if your not sure go up one size! Blooming Marvelous Mothercare are good too. Sadly for me though the sizing can be too baggy!

Good Luck and just hunt around you will eventually find something.
