To think what is the point in 'ripen at home' fruit.

22 weeks pregnant and craving the bollucks off some nectarines.

I live in a small town with 2 food shops, both of which only stock a small fruit selection and the only pissing nectarines they have are solid 'ripen at home' ones.

Who the hell buys riown at home fruit? Surely when you want fruit you want to est it, not watch it like watching paint dry until it's good enough to eat.

I fuckin' hate the co-op.

Complete swizz. Go to bed with nectarines that have been rock hard for days in your bowl, wake up to find they have picked that night to under go accelerated ripening and are all wrinkled with a mouldy pressure sore. Agree also NEVER buy an unripe avocado- you won't get to eat it. Tinned peaches are your only answer for now OP

We are in a rural area and so only go to a shop once a week. If all the fruit was ripe when II bought it on Saturday, it would be way too squishy to eat by the following Friday!

With bananas it helps resolve arguments. I love bananas when they're mostly still green but DH loves them all yellow and black so we get to enjoy both this way

I love a crunchy nectarine/peach/apricot. I don't enjoy them as much when mushy and dripping down my arm. I always buy ripen at home fruit.

@Namechangeymcnamechange11 exactly the same

Alternatives to "tree ripened plums"

Ripen on the ship transporting them, if they come from far away
..... or obviously ripen at home, cheeky buggers

We would have won the Ashes no problem with supermarket peaches and nectarines, they're so hard they would take Smith's head off!

We go to the warehouse of a market trader, the sort of place you put a coat on to enter, their peaches have been bliss, take them out of the fridge each day and eat at room temperature.

cushioncovers · 17/09/2019 09:57

"Ripen at home" fruit never ripens. It's inedibly hard for a few days then inedibly rotten after that.

Yep that's my experience of it as well. I don't bother now.

Stabbitha · 17/09/2019 09:59

I work for co op.

We reduce them right down to nothing on the display until date.

They still aren't ripe then.

TheFrenchLieutenantsMonkey · 17/09/2019 10:07

When I was pregnant I craved the hell.out of nectarines but unripe ones. The supermarkets catered to me beautifully 😂

trinitybleu · 17/09/2019 10:10

It's designed for my DD who will only eat plums and kiwis when they are crunchy and sour. And I only like slightly green bananas Smile

thecatsthecats · 17/09/2019 10:11

I only do a proper food shop about every 10 days (plus the odd ingredient or two during the week/milk). I buy a mixture of ready to eat fruit, ripen at home stuff, and stuff that is ready to eat but will also last a while.

This thread reminded me of this Grin

I had some that went mouldy before they got ripe. I felt so cheated
