To feel bad at wasting NHS resources when

Long time lurker, first time poster so excuse me if I do something wrong. I don't really know what to do and I just need to vent a bit.
To cut a long story short I was born with a massive and very visible birthmark on my face. It never bothered me as a child but as a teenager I was bullied mercifully about it and was assaulted by a group of teenagers during which there were comments made about it. I then developed PTSD from the attack. I now have severe anxiety along with the PTSD and I need to be heavily medicated to even be okay to leave the house. I don't have any friends because I can't go anywhere in fear people will be staring at it. If I leave the house I normally spend over an hour using makeup to make it less visible. I also have psychiatrist appointments often for my mental health.

Recently a family member made a comment about all the money I'm spending from the NHS budget on psychiatrist appointments, medication and all that stuff, and why can't I just get the surgery to remove it. The thing is there is actually a surgery I could have that would dramatically improve it so that I think I would have a much better quality of life without so many MH issues. Plus I wouldn't cost the NHS so much. The thing is it's only available privately because it's considered cosmetic and I'm realistically not in a position to afford it any time soon. My sister has made me feel so bad about wasting the money.

NHS does pay for "cosmetic" surgeries if you can show a need for it. I'd say that would definitely be a good reason for needing it. Definitely talk to your gp about it.

I ended up getting a mole above my ear removed because I brought it up to my gp that it gets sore from my glasses pushing onto it. Definitely feel like you've got more of a reason than I did.

Sorry to hear how you feel about it. I personally don't think your wasting NHS money.
I suffer with vitiligo skin condition which makes me very low at times. I got a free appointment with the British Red Cross on how to use special make up to cover the white patches. It was very helpful and I qualify for the make up on the NHS. Might be worth a try?
Good luck with whatever you decide - you need the help in my view so that you can try and lead a normal life

You aren't wasting resources. You are making use of resources that are there free at point of need. You sound very low to me so please make sure you have people in real life to talk to. As for 'cosmetic' surgery to remove an unsightly birthmark ( to stupid ignorant people), I would think this may well be available on the NHS if it is leading to severe MH issues. Please talk to your GP. Good luck

Surely the NHS should fund this? It's affecting your mental health I think it should be made available for you.

And you're not wasting any resources - that's a really unpleasant thing to say - you need the NHS and use it.

You are not wasting resources my love, the NHS is there for care at the point of need.

Ask her to check if the NHS does wanker removals. If it does then I'm more than happy for my tax to sort out your sister!

God as of with all that shit going on you need a family member being so horrible too... grr

Hope things get better for you Thanks

Your sister is an idiot.
