To dry my clothes on the radiator

Never thought this was an issue. Just mentioned to my landlady that the radiators are working fine as they dry the washing, and apparently this is a very bad thing to do.

Is it?

You will see on here OP lots of home owners who have dried their washing on radiators where necessary for years and years and years with no ill effects. Your LL is BU especially if she won't provide you with a tumble drier. Just ignore her tbh as long as you continue to take good care of the property and take steps to ensure you don't cause mould growth or whatever.

We have always lived in short term rentals til last year and these were always flats so nowhere to dry our washing. The first few years we had communal launderettes which were far more expensive than it would be for us to run a dryer and then the next few years we had washer/dryers. We would use our dryer wherever possible in the colder months but you can't tumble dry everything regardless, some clothes aren't suitable for tumble drying and would be ruined. So we have always dried a lot of stuff on radiators/ on airers in front of radiators. Never any problem with damp apart from one flat that had a pre-existing problem with it and we bought and used a dehumidifier there too. Now we have a yard but it's small so often can't get all our washing out there anyway on the line and where I live it rains most the time so still have to do a lot of drying indoors. You can't tumble dry anything delicate.

ShinyMe I came on to say the same!

I have been drying clothes on the radiators in this house for the last 19 years with no damp, mould or rust. Only in the winter obviously, I use the line outside in the summer. I do open the windows every day though.

your LL is right, drying the clothes on the radiator will cause damp (unless you also keep the windows open, which you don't want to so as it will be cold) however she is also BU in not providing you with a way to dry your clothes. I really recommend a dehumidifier. Cheap to run, drys stuff reasonably quickly, no damp. It also gives a small amount of warmth.

I've looked at dehumidifiers, but not a clue which to go for and it not be a waste of money. Never owned one before, have always just has windows open!

@whenskiesaregrey try having a look at which? They've got a Best Buy and don't buy sections sometimes they do a £1 offer joining and then cancel before the 30 days up!

Your landlord sounds very precious...if you've got windows open them just keep drying them on the radiators and take them off when she comes round...otherwise invest in some radiator paint Grin ps we dry ours on the radiator and no issues here.
