I mean would have thought this was obvious but apparently it is quite common according to the train driver. parent on their phone while the child plays on the railway line Shock

My ex is a train driver, he’s hit quite a few people and unfortunately it’s part of the job now. A while back there was a mum and her 4/5 year old. She had head phones in and was on her phone and unfortunately she was hit and died at the scene. My ex had to try and console the small child and had to take time off work due to it.
It’s never, ever worth the risk to even be near the tracks unless you’re crossing at a designated space.

I only scanned the article but I don't think there's anything saying she's his mother? She could have spotted him and been phoning the police.

Oh that's shocking. Good job the line wasn't live. What is wrong with the parents these days permanently glued to their phones?

When I was a kid it was drummed into us not to go near the railway lines. I remember people coming into school and telling us and getting a badge with 'I'm train trained' on it.

She could have spotted him and been phoning the police

Because she wouldn't go and drag him off first?

Soubriquet · 14/09/2019 20:07

That is shocking!!!

It’s true that the woman above could be phoning the police but surely as a human being if you saw a child playing on the tracks with a train coming, you would be shouting them and/or coaxing them out of the way

kaytee87 · 14/09/2019 20:09

A picture is only a snapshot of time. She could have been trying to get him off the tracks before it was taken.

Or it could be his mum allowing him to play there while she was chatting on the phone.

I find it hard to believe that many mothers would allow that but there's always one.

ThisMustBeMyDream · 14/09/2019 20:09

Didn't look like she was on the phone. Didn't look like she could see him either.
But obviously they shouldn't be on the line. Not sure what else we're supposed to say tbh?

kaytee87 · 14/09/2019 20:11

@ThisMustBeMyDream you make a fair point, there's a big bush in front of him. Her hand is up to her ear but it may not be holding a phone.
