To think that gluten free means more expensive? (Looking for bread maker...)

Gluten intolerance (the pain associated with) is bad enough let alone having to fork out for food which costs the Earth.

Been looking at negating these ongoing costs by buying a bread-maker; and the suggestion is to go for one with a gluten free option. Nope. I don't want to hand bake - I don't have the time nor the inclination (sorry Mary Berry).

The hike in price between the 'normal' large bread-makers and the ones with the GF setting, is ridiculous. I just want to be able to make gluten free breads, pizza dough, sourdough, croissants, at the press of a button. But I'm not happy to pay another £60-£80-£100 for the "privilege" of being gluten intolerant.

AIBU to suggest that food which is prepared for those with allergies and intolerances is unnecessarily over-priced despite a massive movement towards these sorts of altered diets?

I’ve been GF for about 10 years (IBS). We had a bread maker with a GF setting, it was rubbish doing GF! DH ended up using it with gluten bread kits and his was great. The reason anything is more experience is because in order to comply with regulations to avoid cross contamination in needs to be made totally separately, so in a different factory. Given that wheat is cheap, GF alternatives and doing it separately is what bumps the prices up. There’s a markup on them for sure though.

The number three rated bread maker for gluten free loaf is the Morphy Richards one which is £59.99 on amazon.

I make gf bread in a normal bread maker and it seems ok.
