Waiting in line at customer services in Tesco.
Well dressed older couple (70 ish) walk past pushing their trolley. Stop at ‘free fruit for kids stand’, select banana, peel and eat......
Is that CFery or AIBU?

A kid in my local Tesco’s took a bite out of 3 different apples then put them back in the fruit box. His mother just stood next to him watching and didn’t say a word.

To be fair the apples looked proper grim. They looked like the science experiment where someone left an apple on a desk for 5 years or whatever and they looked grim but weren’t mouldy or anything.

ChocChocButtons · 13/09/2019 23:18

I think Tesco don’t care who has it tbh. My little nanny charge lived for that free piece of fruit lol so much so we went and they had run out of banana so the lovely shop assistant took a bunch and pulled one off for her and me.

Hecateh · 13/09/2019 23:19

Over 60, in my 'second childhood' - but I look at what they have to offer in mine and I'm not interested - does not look at all appetising.

ControversialFerret · 13/09/2019 23:21

Our local Tesco has removed the stand, which is a shame. I used to see plenty of adults visiting it for themselves, but it would be nice if it would be for everyone. Tesco makes a big song and dance about a balanced diet; I'm sure they can afford to throw a few apples and oranges on to a stand for all customers to help themselves.

ClaraThePigeon · 13/09/2019 23:21

It's not the sin of the century, but the OP asked if it's CFery, and of course it is. They can read. It says Free Fruit for Kids, and they're taking it when they're not kids.

String them up! Heartless bastards stealing food from the mouths of babes.

Drogosnextwife · 13/09/2019 23:23

My mum did it one day. I was Mortified, I couldn't even walk round the shop with her. I did tell her it was just for kids, she said "ah they will never know". She will be shoving gammon joints in her bag next! She's not coming back to tesco with me now, it will have to be asda next time.

saraclara · 13/09/2019 23:23

I said it's NOT the sin of the century, @ClaraThePigeon !

Branleuse · 13/09/2019 23:25

I hope you called the police on those OAPs

ClaraThePigeon · 13/09/2019 23:28

Regardless, you seem rather perturbed by it.

salsmum · 13/09/2019 23:29

My DP works for Tesco's online they treat their staff quite badly and although he busts a gut for them ( other than a job) he gets little in return... he is 64 maybe one day he'll be the one getting a 'greener' from Tesco's Wink

salsmum · 13/09/2019 23:30

Free bee not greener lol

MrsRufusdog789 · 13/09/2019 23:31

They could have been diabetic ?

Wingedharpy · 13/09/2019 23:36

We're all somebody's kid.

elephantoverthehill · 13/09/2019 23:38

It is a marketing ploy. If you shop online you don't have little nagging voices for things you don't really plan on buying. If the Dcs have some fruit at the front of the store they will have finished it by time they get to the cake, sweet, biscuit aisle. Ok pet food next, they may not be interested in Grin

ilovesooty · 13/09/2019 23:54

I expect they parked their car in a P&C space as well. Did you check OP? Grin

NerrSnerr · 14/09/2019 07:56

You are being massively unreasonable. Old people need vitamins too.

This comment made me laugh! I'm sure they had plenty of vitamin filled food in their full trolley of food.

It's not the crime of the century but it is a bit cheeky.

OVienna · 14/09/2019 08:24

Log it! Number to dial is 101.

OVienna · 14/09/2019 08:25

(They would, are low rent CF-ers.)

kenandbarbie · 14/09/2019 08:32

I can't get worked up about this. Free fruit is good for everyone.

keepingbees · 14/09/2019 08:36

It's a tad cheeky but I wouldn't get worked up about it.
Perhaps a better idea would be for Tesco to put out all the perfectly good fruit they throw away because it's on its display by date, and let anyone take it.

exLtEveDallas · 14/09/2019 08:41

My mum did this when she was feeling shaky in Tesco. She kept the peel and tried to pay when she got to the checkout - the lady listened to mums explanation and called over a colleague - mum thought she was going to be in trouble but instead the lady insisted that her colleague call mum a taxi instead of her going on the bus in case she was unwell. I ❤️ my Mums Tesco.

borntobequiet · 14/09/2019 08:46

Grownups eating bananas while walking around a shop is a bit déclassé imo.

99problemsandjust1appt · 14/09/2019 08:47

If they suffer with low blood sugar they should be prepared and carry glucose tablets with them

RB68 · 14/09/2019 08:48

I have no problem with this, its all odds and ends of fruit especially the single nanas so best eaten than wasted. Glad its not biccies and a cuppa for old folk and something with nutrients in

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 14/09/2019 09:02

How does the fruit cost Tesco “literally nothing”?

I don’t think weighing any paying for a banana skin is acceptable. If you’re about to pass out you could go for pre-packed bananas so you still pay for what you’ve assumed or take another single one to the till to be weighed.

They were CFs. I wouldn’t do anything about it but I’d be embarrassed if they were my parents.
