AIBU to worry about not having a passport given Britexit?

I may have been watching far too many dystopian tv series but with Britexit looming I am aware that NONE of my family have valid passports. We have no plans to travel at all but I am concerned if things go tits up we may be reducing our options by not having passports. My OH thinks we should wait until we leave but by then it may be too late.... Or am I being paranoid?

I don’t have a valid passport. Why would Brexit mean you need one before? Surely as they are issued in the UK you’ll still be able to get one?

Leave it long enough you will get a blue one

Where would you even go? There won't be planes and all the ferries will either be imaginary or transporting vital medicines. And you'd need a visa in any case. Unless perhaps if going to Scotlond.

Only if we have a trade deal, they come from Europe Grin

I got a passport recently with no plans to leave the country. If you plan on changing jobs or volunteering in the near future, or logging into any government online service then you need one. Rather expensive just for a form of ID!

Drivers license is a form of ID?
I haven’t had a passport for years and changed my mortgage in that time I’m sure

Right to Work checks are easiest with photo id, but passports/ driving licence isn't mandatory - you just have to take more documentation if you don't have photo id.

Calling it britexit makes you come across as a bell.

ChangeOfTides · 13/09/2019 18:28

I’m not sure why you think Brexit would mean you need a passport? Unless you’re in Northern Ireland maybe?

Not sure that is true. Not everyone has a passport and there is no legal necessity to have a passport unless you are travelling abroad.
