DS's class were completely obsessed by Kitchen Disco. We went to a birthday party at the local soft play and one of the children spotted it in the reading/quiet corner and they all went crackers.

Bog baby is good, and Julia Donaldson (The Magic Paintbrush is fab), Paperbag princess, The Book With No Pictures, Percy The Park Keeper, QPootle, Harry and the Dinosaurs, All Change, The Pirate Cruncher, Sir Scallywag and the Deadly Dragon Poo...

@Waving
Thank you. I usually teach yr 3/4 . I definitely want something to keep them quiet.

My year one twins love the Tiger who came to tea.

nonmerci · 13/09/2019 17:10

My DD’s class did Bog Baby and made little Bog babies of their own from clay. She still loves the book now three years on.

“I need a new bum” or any of the Oi Dog! type books, Tiddler, Snail and the Whale.

Wonky donkey
Rosie revere engineer
Iggy peck architect

Omg you need Stephanie's Ponytail

Keewee27 · 13/09/2019 17:41

Do they need to do an activity related to the book? If so, I'd say Julia Donaldson books. Maybe room on a broom or the gruffalo.

If you're just reading a book to them I read 'Pirates love underpants' to a year 1 class on Wednesday and they loved it.

Julia Donaldson all the way - Snail and the Whale, Zog, Room on the Broom, Stick Man, Tiddler

PurpleSproutingSomething · 13/09/2019 18:04

The Supertato books are great, actually anything by Sue Hendra.
Mini Grey also writes some fantastic books.
Somebody Swallowed Stanley
Ketchup On Your Cornflakes
Don't Hug the Pug

I hope this isn't patronising (as it's not meant to be at all) but reading with a lot of expression will make most books sound better. There have been many teachers that come into my reception class to cover and then read as if they're reading from a textbook.

I hope it goes well, I love year 1.

My point was that this thread shouldn't be in AIBU. YABU to put it here (clearly your expectation wasn't to be told YABU!).

Chat or Education?
