Home insurance - am I paying too much?

I pay £380 per year in home, contents and legal insurance for a small two-bed terraced house in inner London. I was wondering if this is normal or whether I should shop around?

There are entire websites than can do these calculations for you. We won’t be able to tell you, it’s based in no small part on the crime in your specific area.

Depends on the policy. You could most likely get a policy for less but it almost certainly wouldn't be as good. If you are paying that for a basic policy then that is quite a lot. I pay a lot more but have a lot of cover

I compare every year and pay £120 for home and contents (no legal) for a 2 bed semi in the South East.

Once a year I spend a couple of hours comparing and switching car insurance, home insurance, gas and electricity, and internet and it definitely saves me more than I'd be paid at work for those couple of hours! Also paying annually (I save monthly throughout the year using a budgeting programme) tends to save me money too. The charges for monthly payment can be quite high.

Also the comparison sites also give Defacto ratings and - in some cases - customer service ratings, and you can cross check with Truspilot. I tend not to get the cheapest but the cheapest with a decent reputation and the right level of cover for me. It saves £££ because the auto-renewal seems to increase by at least 10% yearly even if I haven't claimed. Also if you ring to cancel they often offer you a cheaper quote for the same cover. Don't just auto-renew!

I pay about £220 for a 4 bed in the Midlands. They're incomparable though. You need to use a comparison site.

Go to the home insurance section on moneysavingexpert.com and it will tell you which comparison sites to try.

Check the Defacto rating as some insurances are much better than others.

Always change every year.

I've never heard of a Defacto rating before, but had a look and my provider is 5 stars. Thanks for the tips!
