I’ve had the dubious privilege of viewing quite a lot of hospital art & I think that’s definitely the weirdest. (Still pretty sure it’s deliberate that some of flowers over beds on gynae ward at Trust my care’s managed at have the whole More Vaginal Than Floral look going on. But only some, presumably so they can look all shocked if anyone says anything...)

I'd assume - as the business end of a mermaid is fish - that they don't carry live young, which makes it a particularly bizarre choice of theme given the location of the mural.

I agree that their scaly transition from tail to torso is really gross. It gives me the heebie jeebies in the same way that things with clusters of holes do (there's a word for that but it's escaped me).

And yes, it's very male gaze isn't it? That waist to tailbum size differential....
