To want to scratch my skin off?

Tigerwhocamefortea · 12/09/2019 04:53

Last night I started feeling really itchy all over my body. It’s continued all night to the point where I’m awake and sat on my hands to try to stop myself from scratching.

There is no rash or spots. It came on suddenly and I’ve changed my clothes, showered and taken a and I still want to scratch my skin off!

Any ideas what may have caused it??

Allergy? Hormones? - menopause is notorious for causing itching. Do you have any hayfever tablets like cetirizine or piriton?

Tigerwhocamefortea · 12/09/2019 06:31

I doubt it’s an allergy as I haven’t had anything to kick it off. I’m hopefully years away from the menopause.

I took a Piriton before bed and will take another this morning as it’s still itching like crazy!

Could just be sensitive skin. Use some Aveeno cream - brilliant for itchy skin

SerenDippitty · 12/09/2019 07:04

Could it be what your laundry product? The only one that doesn’t make me itch, including Ecover and sensitive skin ones, is Persil non bio. Had to give up fabric softener too.

Tigerwhocamefortea · 12/09/2019 07:07

I think I have some aveeno for the kids so will slap some of that on.

I haven’t changed laundry product in years.

I now have a rash all over my stomach but not sure if me itching has caused it as my whole body still itches but there is no rash anywhere else.

Are you on any medication? Itching and rash last time I look amoxicillin was dreadful.

You can also become allergic to something that's always been ok. We had to suddenly change washing powders when my husband got 'the itch'.

FusionChefGeoff · 12/09/2019 07:17

If you're pregnant, itching without a rash is something to do with your liver if I remember rightly.... guess you'd have said if you were pregnant though!!!! Not sure if there's any link if you're not pregnant though.

BelindasGleeTeam · 12/09/2019 07:20

Sometimes you can react to a virus.

I had this once. Was hugely stressed at the time too, got a cold and had the most horrendous itchy rash everywhere.

Thought it was washing powder but it wasn't.

Tigerwhocamefortea · 12/09/2019 07:27

Not pregnant, still breastfeeding my 6 month old.

Yes could be a virus I guess, I’ve been feeling a little under the weather but have a toddler and baby so been ploughing through!

Following this with interest because I've had this for about 8 weeks around my back and bra area. I've no rash, no spots and I've seen the GP.
It makes me want to claw my skin, and is much worse with a bra on but not great at any time. I've tried several creams with no real relief 🙁

LaBelleSauvage · 12/09/2019 07:32

Go to your GP

Fozzleyplum · 12/09/2019 07:35

I've been generally itchy all my life, with the worst epusodes at night. It was at its worst when I was pregnant. I use cetirizine, Aveeno body lotion and Aveeno bath powder, all of which work for me, especially the bath powder, which is made of very finely-ground oatmeal.

Tigerwhocamefortea · 12/09/2019 07:56

I am off on holiday tonight for a week so will see my go when I get back if it’s still there. I don’t want to take an emergency appointment today just for a rash.

Well the rash and itchyness disappeared during the day only to come back with a vengeance last night! Huge rash in the night covering my stomach, neck, back and legs that was insanely itchy and felt like it was burning. It was red and raised with a yellow twinge. I was so uncomfortable I considering finding an out of house centre. However this morning it’s completely gone again!

You mention going on holiday. So was it in a different bed you were sleeping in but the rash still came back?

Thankgoodness1 · 13/09/2019 06:58

Have a little read of this.

I think you need either a call to 111 or a GP appointment.

Tigerwhocamefortea · 13/09/2019 07:50

The first night was at home and the second in the Travelodge half way to our holiday. Different beds and different pj’s.

It’s all disappeared now so nothing to show a doctor. Hoping it doesn’t reappear tonight. I’ve made an appointment for a week on Wednesday as that’s the closest I could get with my GP when I’m back from holiday.

I get really itchy when I am tired???

Stampy84 · 13/09/2019 08:11

Have you heard of Hells itch? Google it, it’s horrible!

Proseccoinamug · 13/09/2019 08:21

Take a photo of the rash when it appears to show dr?

Tigerwhocamefortea · 13/09/2019 09:12

Yes I will take a photo if it comes back tonight.

Hells rash seems to be after sunburn which I definitely haven’t had.
