I've had Restless Leg Syndrome since I was a teenager, and it no longer just happens in the evenings, I often wake up with it and have it all day. Sometimes it's mild and I can deal with it, but today is horrendous.

It isn't just in my legs, it's in my spine and hips and sometimes I get it in my arms, thankfully rarely.

I've tried magnesium spray, iron supplements, ivory soap, b12, a weighted blanket, cold water, and exercise. Sometimes eating steak or mussels or something with iron in eases it, but I've eaten black pudding today and it's still really bad.

I cannot stop shaking my legs and twisting my spine. Has anyone had success with anything that gives them some relief?

Have you tried quinine tablets? Apparently quinine works really well for restless legs.

Actually that's what thing I haven't tried. I have tried drinking tonic water, but I didn't realise you could get quinine in tablet form.

Have you tried an acupressure mat? Worked really well for me when I had restless legs as a side-effect of some medication I was on but does take a bit of getting used to!

Do you sleep on your back, side, or stomach? Mine gets worse if I sleep on my back or side too much. Even a bit of time per night sleeping on my stomach really helps.

Set yourself a couple of alarms to get up and do a five minute stretch every day. You can find loads of guides on youtube. A bunch of us in the office do them together.

Iron helps me if the sleep position thing is in check, and I haven't spent too much time sitting down.

Go and see your GP and ask to be prescribed Ropinrole - it will ease it, I promise

Rachelover60 · 11/09/2019 23:25

I'd be scared of potential side effects and Ropinrole is not something you can just stop taking after a while, you have to gradually reduce and taper off.

My RLS always appears at times of great stress. It's horrible! I don't sleep terribly well at the best of times but I might be all cosy and sleepy then suddenly my legs......oh well, fellow 'sufferers' will understand. Like one of the posters above, it first occurred when I was young and I've had it intermittently since.

I was prescribed pramipexole for my restless legs, it worked but had some unpleasant side effects, including gambling addiction. As soon as I stopped taking them I no longer had the impulse to gamble.
