There must be a better way.... worms!

School have just sent round a letter about worms in the class (boak).

I’ve looked online at how to tell if your kid has worms and the advice seems to be to sneak in to their room at night and look at their bums for eggs/worms. I just can’t bring myself to do that as it seems really creepy.

It’s not as easy as ‘treat everyone just in case’ as 2 of us have stomach issues and restricted diets. Any kind of medicine/tablet can cause issues for weeks.

Does anyone else have a better way of finding out for sure if I need to treat us all?

That’s even better than cling film, great idea!
I’m going to give that a go tomorrow.

Itchy bottom in the evening/early night is the usual symptom here (had them 3 times so far ). You do NOT always see them in the poo or round their bum, apparently they cling to the sides of the digestive tract so don’t get poo’d out. By the time you see them in the poo the DC has probably had them for ages.

Key things to remember:

  • Always give 2 doses two weeks apart, the first one kills worms but not eggs, so the second one kills any left over eggs that have become new worms (before they are old enough to lay their own eggs). If you don’t do the second dose re infection from the eggs is pretty likely.
  • Cut nails short and keep hands very very clean
  • Pants at night to prevent or at least reduce scratching

For your family OP - Ovex is not the only option, for example Boots make their own brand, just in case the ingredients of that one work better for you.
