In pain and very cross would like to know if AIBU...

Went to dentist in June for pain in top row. Diagnosed needing a filling in bottom row and that it was referred pain. Didn't actually have any pain in bottom but shown x ray and can see decay. Fine have filling.

Ever since then I have had lots of pain and discomfort at site of the filling. Intermittent still pain in top row. The dentist who did it originally has left so new dentist.

New dentist has found all manner of things wrong with me and fillings that I need, that is strange to me as I've always been told everything in my mouth is healthy/good etc. She has diagnosed that worst case there is decay under the filling and into the root. It will need removing refilling into the root and a crown. It will cost £500 and take 2 hours.

So AIBU to be p'd off that the first dentist has not in my view done it properly and I am now required to endure this? Her view is that it's a risk with fillings.

I am not willing to go ahead immediately as I am still hoping it may calm down although I know this is unlikely. I am however also cross that I am effectively suffering twice and paying twice. Do I have any recourse? How bad is root canal it sounds horrendous?

I have had root canal work done due to having abscesses but it was a long time ago so I can't say how much it costs now. I can say that I had to return twice as he didn't seal it off permanently (had to drill through back of crowns) until he was sure the infection had gone. Also had antibiotics and work didn't start until they had begun to work. The treatment was painless except for the anaesthetic injections which don't hurt once the first lot has gone in. HTH and best of luck. I also once had a small filling on a molar and the pain continued so I went to a different practice. He did an xray and found a huge cavity underneath and he had no choice but to remove the tooth. I was annoyed (with first dentist )but had to agree. That's when I found that my molars have hooked roots!

At least it didn't hurt that's something!

Your dentist cocked up the filling. Probably left a gap at the bottom. This happened to me. I had to have root canal as the tooth had died.

It seems odd that the new dentist has found so much wrong. Ask for a comparison of the x-rays and then seek a second opinion.
