Has anyone ever done it?
I've had problems down below for over a month now.Constant low stomach/vulva ache.Had swabs done came back positive for thrush so given pessary and cream which didn't work so went back and got tablet which also didn't work.
Ive been to see a dr today and shes referring me to gynae but I haven't been asked to have more swabs to see if the thrush is gone so I'm in limbo with this pain until hospital appointment in(I'm assuming) a few weeks.
I've ordered metronidazole online today which is used for vaginal infections such as bacterial vaginosis to see if it will help.Am I being stupid? I almost feel desperate as the pain is very bad.

YABU. Do not take antibiotics that have not been prescribed to you. They may not even be suitable for what you have. Its things like this that are the reason that we have antibiotic resistance.

Throckmorton · 11/09/2019 16:33

Jesus, don't do this!! Apart from anything else, those pills could contain anything!

PrincessHoneysuckle · 11/09/2019 16:37

They are from superdrug, totally legit .They are an antibiotic for vaginal infections.I rarely take antibiotics at all.Shit I dont know what to do for the best now

Totally legit my arse. Superdrug don't sell antibiotics online

PrincessHoneysuckle · 11/09/2019 16:42

They honestly do I'm picking them up after 5pm from my local town branch. You get asked questions before they authorise them.

In that case I'm guessing the question will be "where is your prescription?"

binkyclink · 11/09/2019 16:48

OP you can buy a swab thing thing that tests for Bacterial vagnosis - I've had BV & I don't recall the symptoms being like you described. I'm sure the doctor would have picked up that it was BV as it's very common like thrush.

dottycat123 · 11/09/2019 16:50

The vaginal swabs which identified thrush would have identified if you had a bacterial infection sensitive to metronidazole. It's more likely the thrush needs on going treatment with more oral treatment.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 11/09/2019 16:52

@Throckmorton I'm collecting it from my branch of superdrug

My apologies OP - I've done a bit of Googling and it seems you can indeed buy these online, after answering questions about symptoms etc. If you do take this, make sure you absolutely do not have alcohol while on the pills - it can give you severe side effects. I am not a doctor; take the advice of whoever prescribes/dispenses this drug to you.

AsleepAllDay · 11/09/2019 16:56

Take some painkillers - I had bad thrush and only cocadamol helped until the pill kicked in

PrincessHoneysuckle · 11/09/2019 17:15

@Throck thanks yes I wont drink.

I have bought metronidazole from superdrug online - it's all completely legit and only prescribed by a doctor after answering lots of questions - they dont dish them out willy nilly. I've taken them and they sorted me out - doc said I had thrush but my symptoms didn't go away. I'm sure it's fine to take them just dont have any alcohol.

independentfriend · 11/09/2019 18:51

Maybe also worth trying your local sexual health clinic for tests for STIs (may be available by post) whilst you wait for the gynaecologist.

Howshelaughed · 11/09/2019 18:58

@PrincessHoneysuckle I'm not sure what strength they are but they can make you feel awful. As already said you absolutely must not drink any alcohol at all & for a few days after taking them. They have the same effect as antabuse. Hope they work for you & you get relief soon.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 12/09/2019 09:08

@independentfriend I had sti checks done in my swabs
