To find “Miranda” funny?

I don’t know what’s happened. I’m 48 now and I’m craving soothing, harmless TV shows like Bake Off, Masterchef, and all of a sudden, almost overnight - Miranda.

I used to despise it. Now I find her really endearing. I’m bingeing it on iPlayer. I haven’t told my DH. I’m almost on season 3. I can’t stop.

AIBU to really like this programme?

Series 1 and 2 were ok, went totally downhill in series 3 IMO

VladmirsPoutine · 11/09/2019 13:33

Yanbu. I find that sort of comedy tedious. Much like mrs Browns Boys. I cringe when I watch them. That said I don't begrudge a woman who has made a success in comedy. That in itself is wonderful so my liking of her comedy is neither here nor there.

That said, I do enjoy Bake Off and other harmless family watching shows.

Rezie · 11/09/2019 13:33

I love that show

DobbyTheHouseElk · 11/09/2019 13:36

I love her, easy to watch and rather too relatable imo.

HasThisSoddingNameGoneToo · 11/09/2019 13:40

Yes, easy to watch! Like a chick lit book on tv.

It’s occasionally corny and the laughter sounds canned... but her looks to camera are funny, and her overall “scatty but longing to be glossy and organised” vibe is my life.

One day I happened to put it on and me and husband agreed it would never make us laugh and was totally unfunny, we were howling with laughter! We never seem to watch it tho and I’m not sure why really.

milliefiori · 11/09/2019 13:41

I thought I hated it until DS2 got into it. Then we ended up watching it together and loving it. She's very endearing and I love her tiny blonde sidekick.

Yes! This. I put it on because I needed something to watch as I went to sleep 😆 But I really liked it. It’s a corny format but she’s really likeable.

I feel the same about Outnumbered OP.

Have you seen lucifer? Tom Ellis is amazing in it, maybe one for you to watch!

HasThisSoddingNameGoneToo · 11/09/2019 13:48

I like Outnumbered but it’s so similar to my actual life that I find it a bit stressful. I can only do it in small doses.

Haven’t watched Lucifer; I’ll check that out. 😋

Can anyone explain why Miranda is a 15?! Watch it with my 10 and 13 year old seems fine for older kids. We all find it funny anyway !

Teacakeandalatte · 11/09/2019 15:08

We love Miranda too. I like a bit of old fashioned slapstick and she has some clever observations hidden amongst all the corny gags.

from123toabc · 11/09/2019 15:12

PP blocking it in with Mrs Browns Boys. NO!!!! Mrs BB is total shite- I have no idea how that's supposed to be funny.

Miranda is just harmless fun, like Outnumbered and My Family used to be. I'm only 31 but I find it quite comforting.

Valanice1989 · 11/09/2019 15:13

I used to think it was embarrassingly bad, but it eventually became a guilty pleasure of mine. It's just gentle comedy - good to help you unwind when you're stressed. I love the scene where Miranda is at her school reunion and her ex-classmate lists off all her achievements and asks Miranda what she's doing now, and Miranda replies, "I'm... Myleene Klass."

LaLoba · 11/09/2019 15:19

I love Miranda the person, she is adorable and naturally funny, so it makes me sad that I find her show so unfunny. However, I’m 47, so maybe by my next birthday I’ll be howling with laughter at it.

brieislife · 11/09/2019 15:24

Not unreasonable at all - I love Miranda!

I agree that’s it nothing like Mrs Brown’s Boys (thank God!). I’d bracket it with The Vicar of Dibley - silly, warm, gentle and relatable with occasional slapstick.

Handbag101 · 11/09/2019 15:38

OMG I love it. The one where she goes to 'Thailand' is my favourite.

EscapeTheCastle · 11/09/2019 15:39

I've been re watching this recently on iplayer. Loved it the first time, loving it more the 2nd time as it has taught me an important and useful lesson.

People are very rude to her and she reacts in humour. This has been very therapeutic for me!

Yes, I agree about series 3 not being as great. It has celebrity cameos and the audience going mental when there's a catchphrase. Overall though it's a wonderful show and just the tonic for me recently.

BooksAreMyOnlyFriends · 11/09/2019 15:41

My go to comedies are Miranda, Dinner Ladies, The Vicar of Dibley and The Royle Family. I love all the characters as if they are my own family. It's 'comfy slippers with a packet of chocolate digestives' TV.
