Faulty school shoes

winesolveseverything · 10/09/2019 10:36

I bought a pair of Geox school shoes during the summer for my 5 year old..
After 3 days of wearing- this has happened..

The picture shows the worst of it, but the leather is starting to come away on the opposite side, and in the same places on the other shoe.

Taken it back to the shop today only to be told that it is 'probably something your child has done'.... Although when I queried exactly what he's supposed to have done, the manager couldn't answer..

I've never ever had a problem with damaged shoes for either child. Their feet grow slowly so I've always bought good quality school shoes so they last the year. Yes, there is a little wear and tear after a year but nothing like this!

Any advice on how I can get my money back? The manager has held onto them for now as he has a meeting with the Geox guy tomorrow. Although if he opens that discussion with he thinks it's my child's fault I can't see that going very far.. I'm so cross.

Hopefully the picture will attach..

Wait, so the shop has the shoes and your money. Shock

winesolveseverything · 10/09/2019 10:40

They do for now plus my contact details. It's a small shop and the manager knows me by sight as I've bought the kids shoes there for years.. I was hoping he'd be sensible about it..
The shop floor staff agreed with me.

They've only been worn for 3 days?! If I'm honest I'd query it too as they look heavily worn to me, unless it's just the lighting in the photo.

winesolveseverything · 10/09/2019 13:45

Only worn for 3 days yes.. The lighting isn't great. Apart from the area of damaged leather, the rest of the shoes look very obviously brand new.

I took the photo to send to my husband- not intending at that time to post it here.

mawof3soontobe · 10/09/2019 13:50

To be honest it looks like something my child has done before. Sitting in assembly legs crossed and picked the leather off out of boredom.

Pinkypurple35 · 10/09/2019 13:53

I’d call the shop back and say I would accept anything less than a replacement or refund, and I’m so disappointed in this expensive I’d be looking to raise awareness publicly to warn others as after 3 days they aren’t fit for purpose.
Hopefully they will be fair and refund / replace.

Pinkypurple35 · 10/09/2019 13:53

Sorry - I wouldn’t accept anything less

LolaSmiles · 10/09/2019 13:56

That looks like a scuff that's been picked at.

They shouldnt have scuffed bad enough to be picked in the first place but like a PP that sort of area suggests it's been pulled at by a fidgety child.

An exchange for a non faulty pair might be the best you can expect.

Funnyface1 · 10/09/2019 13:57

They don't look brand new. They are quite dirty and the stitching looks frayed. Did you have a receipt to prove you bought them recently? Because if not I wouldn't be happy to refund you either.

Whattodowith · 10/09/2019 13:57

It does look like your child has picked at the leather tbh. I would still expect an exchange after three days, they shouldn’t look so worn in such a short space of time and I know Geox aren’t cheap.

Hopefully common sense prevails.

brilliotic · 10/09/2019 13:59

I have had Geox shoes last the whole year, but one time they started to fall apart after a week - similar to yours.

Reviews of the shoe were actually saying that - 90% of customers were completely happy, but a minority complained about them falling apart within very short time.
Looks like a 'faulty batch' or a problem in the production line, where most are fine but there is a real issue that affects some.

We had a full refund.

IHaveBrilloHair · 10/09/2019 13:59

They look really well worn and picked at tbh, but if you have the receipt they should refund

sweeneytoddsrazor · 10/09/2019 14:06

They dont look like they are only 3 days old. The leather looks like it has been picked, but honestly even with a receipt I wouldn't believe that was only 3 days wear.

Sparklyshoes16 · 10/09/2019 14:20

Just had my friend look at the pic who owns a shoe shop, both of us have said they look like someone's been picking at them and way older than three days especially the toe part I'm afraid...I suppose if you've got the receipt and the inner lining/label matches (sometimes there's a batch number there) they should should give you your money back and send them back to the manufacture to find out why they have deteriorated so quickly.

user1474894224 · 10/09/2019 14:33

Do you name inside of shoes? Is it possible your child put on the wrong pair? As I agree they look way older than 3 days wear.

GladAllOver · 10/09/2019 16:28

I'm sorry but it doesn't look as if that leather surface and stitching could just have fallen off by itself in just three days.

winesolveseverything · 10/09/2019 16:30

I'm glad most of you agree that they look older than 3 days- they really are only 3 days old and yes, I have the receipt to prove it... The shop haven't disputed that.

If I had them here still I would post a much better picture..

There are 4 separate areas of damage - in the same place but opposite each other on each shoe. The least damaged is literally a pin prick size hole, which is no doubt how they all started. I'm wondering if a misaligned velcro strap has been rubbing on the really bad bit- not that I'd expect that to be the result though.

In ref to him picking whilst on the carpet, it is in the wrong position, that area of his shoe would be facing down towards the floor and not very accessible. There are other bits he could reach far more easily.

And yes, they are named- def his shoes 😬

Anyway, I will wait and see what tomorrow brings..

I had a pair of leather shoes do this. Turns out they was only coated leather. I got a full refund but they weren't as advertised as I'd never buy kids non leather shoes as they dont last at school

PumpkinP · 10/09/2019 16:34

They don’t look 3 days old but I don’t think that’s a good thing as the shop may think you’ve bought a new pair and are trying to return the old worn ones

MarigoldGlove · 10/09/2019 16:37

This happened to me. I’m going to look for the emails. I remember there was some hoo-haa where I was emailing Italians but I can’t remember why now.

steppemum · 10/09/2019 16:42

for goodness sake, the OP has said it isn't a great picture and in real life they look brand new!

I had a pair of shoes fall apart. he had worn them for 1 month and the stiching round the toe came completely unstiched. Yes he had played football in the playground in them, but they are boys school shoes!
The shop didn't even blink, and from something she said, I don't think I was the first to return this model.

A school shoe shoudl not be so flimsy that it can be picked apart like that in 3 days. especially at that price.

LolaSmiles · 10/09/2019 16:46

If someone determinedly picks at an already scuffed upper then it's not entirely surprising it would peel like that.

I'd question whether they should have scuffed badly in 3 days, but I can entirely see how they look like that if picked

The shop don't think that.
And who would do that anyway?

They are brand new with brand new grips underneath. (It is a really poor photo.)

The receipt totals £122 of new shoes I bought that same day. The manager remembers as they double check the fit..

Well, I've read all my emails and it took them A YEAR to sort it out and give me my money back! I refused to give in!Grin

This is the email address I had to use but they were not helpful!

I purchased my daughter some Geox shoes in January for school. They quickly developed a hole in the front after only a few weeks of wear. I am very disappointed as I only buy good quality shoes for my children. They were expensive to buy and I had no idea that the leather was only millimeters thick or I would have chosen a different shoe. I have never had a pair of school shoes wear out in this way and I have to say I am very surprised. X-COUNTRY:

Dear Valentina and Elena,^
^
I am still waiting for you to get back to me about the shoes that I purchased from Geox. My daughter has had to wear shoes with holes in all the way through the Winter. I can not understand why such a large and reputable company needs NINE MONTHS in order to solve a problem like this. ^
^
As I said before, I would not have purchased these shoes had I known that they were just covered with a membrane of leather. Foolishly I thought I was buying good quality school shoes.
