Just want to get an idea what is a reasonable amount of money to budget for a week self catering in Scotland during the school holidays .
One adult and one child

Do you mean for the accommodation or for the food and day trips.

Accommodation will depend a lot on location. Walking distance to Edinburgh city centre will be a lot more than rural village location.

It really depends on what you plan to do. If you will be eating g the food you usually eat at home, and doing cheap days out like parks orthe beach then you wouldnt need to budget much. If you're planning to go out each day to theme parks, zoos etc. and buy lunch out then it will be a lot more.

Thinking to have some day trips , eating out a few times etc .
Property has a small fridge but it only has a tiny freezer compartment so not a lot of space for food

Add 50% to your normal weekly food budget, to allow for buying stuff like ketchup, stock cubes, store cupboard items etc (& loo roll!), add on around £20-£30 for any meals out you’re planning to have then cost of entrance fees for any activities. If you want to cut spending do a meal plan before you go, take any store cupboard stuff that you’ll need with you, check online for discount vouchers for days out etc and find the location of the nearest Aldi/Lidl Smile

I did a massive £200 Tesco delivery and spent little else. Picnics, national trust (members), day out on tesco vouchers. We had a few treats out, but could have lived without them. So it depends on what you can afford really self catering.

Just seen your update - tins are your friend! Carrots, peas etc are fine (and cheap), tinned fruit & custard makes a lovely pud (crumble a ginger biscuit or two over the top for a bit of crunch), if you have a slow cooker & are driving, take it with you and sling in a couple of chicken breasts, tinned veg & a jar of sauce before you go out for the day and dinner’s ready when you get back from a busy day out.

It really depends on the area where you are staying, does it have lots of paying/free activities close by, will you be driving or depending on public transport? Are there supermarkets close by?
