My DC are at ages now where they don't have party bags, but I would have loved one of these campaigns 10 years ago. So much tat. In the latter years we would just do a slice of cake wrapped in a napkin.

Just start slapping them out the bairn's hands as they come out the door.
That'll teach 'em.

Paddington68 · 09/09/2019 14:33

Save the world from more plastic sh*t.
Cake in a napkin is your lot!

OneAboveAndOneBelow · 09/09/2019 14:35

They're a good way of getting the kids to trot along home...
Choosing a book or small gift plus cake and bubbles in napkin is better imo (younger kids)

livingthegoodlife · 09/09/2019 14:36

Can we also start one to ban the toy based advent calendars?!!! 24 tiny rubbish toys that will end up in landfill. Not in my house.

Ideas for more environmentally friendly & budget friendly party bags welcomed....

All the parties dd goes to does sweetie bags, mostly in those striped paper bags. Ideal, as everyone loves sweets!

gingerginger2 · 09/09/2019 14:41

We did a nice coloured paper bag, with a bit of cake in a napkin, a few sweets from big pack and a giant piece of chalk each ( 3 for £1 in tiger)

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 09/09/2019 14:42

The last party my dc went to (they are 1 and 4, both were invited) they got a small wooden animal (Lanka Kade) each, a book and a slice of cake wrapped in fabric which has been repurposed by ds into bedding for the dollshouse. I will be aiming for something similar for their parties next year.

CatFaceCats · 09/09/2019 14:44

We gave out a voucher to for an ice cream at the local ice cream place - so much easier than all the crap!

SadSongsAndWaltzes · 09/09/2019 14:44

I'm with you! We tend to do a book for each child instead of a party bag. But we use the book people for their multiple book sets and I think we may have gone through all available options now with various parties, so may have to rethink! I neither want to give plastic tat or have it cluttering up my house. YANBU

I was very confused on what abortion party bags included so needed to check this out Hmm

Now that I actually read this correctly. I was a child long time ago and our party bags included a few bits of candy and maybe some stickers. I really wouldn't want any additional plastic crap. Something to eat or something that is actually useful. I'm not gonna touch the whole cake in a napping thing cause as a non British person it is just confusing.

blahblahblahblahhh · 09/09/2019 14:51

I didn't do party bags this year for DS birthday. Just gave them all a slice of cake.
I've seen some people buy small books (like mr men books or the like) and give them out. But I'm quite happy just giving a slice of cake - I also ask people not to bring presents - it's just not necessary!

pallisers · 09/09/2019 14:55

I'm way past this stage but I hated them so much I'd campaign for you anyway.

Only good one we ever got was a resuable water bottle with a few sweets in it.

thesoftblueone · 10/09/2019 20:37

I have a shoe box which has been kindly renamed ‘the tat box’ where we put in party bag crap eg. Plastic spinning tops as well as kinder egg toys and various other crappy plastic items we get. If it’s a day with nothing else to do or I go to a restaurant with DS then I get the box out and it keeps him entertained for ages! And then it goes away for a bit till next tome. Means at least the stuff is getting played with, not chucked or lost in amongst everything else.

As an aside though, I have decided to stop purchasing kinder eggs at all (not that I ever get them for DS often but u know what I mean) because of the level of plastic they produce.

SunshineAngel · 10/09/2019 20:40

I just stick to a slice of cake, plus some sweets, and a puzzle book or something. A company near ours makes beautiful paper party bags, which I think are a great compromise, so I'm definitely happy with how I do them!
