Irresponsible & pointless marketing or is it just me who thinks this?

I hardly think the demographic for Boden are the irresponsible “buy a dog on a whim cos it goes with my dress” sorts.

I don't think it matters who the demographic is or which company is doing it, its irresponsible full stop to consider an animal an accessory.

Jiggeriepokerie · 09/09/2019 17:41

The reason she's holding the dog so close has nothing to do with being a foil for that dress. It's because the little fucker will be off like a rat up a drain pipe as soon as he catches a whiff of something he likes!

Panic not. There won't be a sudden rush by the Boden mummies to accessorise up with a Lakie because they've got absolutely no chance of finding one going spare this side of 2021. And breeders are VERY selective about who gets to be owned by one.

Completely agree. Animals are not accessories, they have worded it very badly

MitziK · 09/09/2019 18:14

Unfortunately, all I thought was 'I wonder if they do that dress in my size?'.

Wouldn't occur to me to get a dog with a white coat anyway.

I wonder what clothes would go with a Beagle? We're waiting for the perfect pup to come along and as long as it isn't anything black it would be quite entertaining to see DP's face if I told him I needed an entire Beagle-walking outfit.

Although that's largely anything waterproof and suitable for trailing around after the git once he's caught a smell and gone deaf, if my old one was anything to go by...

That looks to me like a Lakeland terrier. I used to have one. The reason you don't see many around is that the pure bred ones tend to be stubborn, difficult and snappy dogs.

It IS a lakeland. My first one was that exact same colouring, my second is a lot darker.

I agree with stubborn, but would describe them as a challenge, rather than difficult. Neither of mine have been snappy, despite being purebred and from show lines, although my girl will give a warning snap if males sniff her bum more than twice. It's like she has her own personal sexual harrassment policy. Both have been great with kids.

They're definitely not for the inexperienced owner, because they're so bloody clever. They turn reward-based training to their advantage, can climb and open doors. A friend observed once that "Most dogs you can train, with a lakie you have to reach a mutual agreement". (He also observed that "You can't beat a terrier" then added "Well, you could, but it wouldn't make any difference").

I had to practically pass an audition with the breed club secretary to get put in touch with a breeder when I was looking for my first one. I think it's great that breeders are so strict about vetting owners.

I’ve reported to ASA, interesting to see how they respond

Won’t they all already have posh dogs to go with their farmhouses?!

Haha, this was my first thought. Does anyone receiving the Boden catalogue not already have a dog? What on earth are they wearing all those sensible gilets and jaunty nauticals to do if not dog walk?

wurlycurly · 09/09/2019 23:48

I think everyone that shops in Boden has s dog already?

wurlycurly · 09/09/2019 23:49

Sorry I see others have beaten me to that point!
