To ask for your experiences flying with a formula fed baby

We are visiting family abroad when LO will be 5 months. Only a short flight but I'm wondering about getting formula, sterile water etc through airport security or at the airport. I read that you can take up to a litre of cool sterile water but have now been told by the airport we are flying from that the 100ml rule applies! Unless we take 10 100ml bottles? And get boiling water at the other side?

Not sure about any prepped formula!

Has anyone done this and what were your experiences?

MO21305 what people are pointing out on this thread is that adding formula powder to cold water is not a safe way to prepare formula for a baby. The powder should be added to water 70 degrees or above in order to kill off any bacteria that might have contaminated the formula.

You can take ready made bottles, the 100ml rule doesnt apply. You can also take sterile water where the 100ml doesnt apply

I'd take ready made. I did two flights around that age and on the first, the air stewards put boiling water in the formula then cooled it for me. But it was a real faff, and a lot easier to get then to warm a ready made bottle. Just take a jug for them to put hot water in to heat it, as the one they had was tiny!

NannyR Apologies I didn’t read the whole thread as I just answered the original question which was asking for shared experiences. As it happens the water was warmed up before adding the powder to it as the flight attendants put it in a cup of boiling water for me in their food prep area & let me stay with it until it was warm enough. I should have added that bit in my original reply.

Take ready made separate cartons. We flew to Australia from the UK when our DS was 5 months old. Our bottles had been pre sterilised and after a feed the cabin crew were happy to wash them out and sterilise again with the scalding water that they use to make their coffee and tea. Worked great.
