To suggest adult feet grow too?

GrumpiestCat · 09/09/2019 08:23

I've been size 6 all my adult life. Took a look at my feet and realised they looked a bit battered. Realised most of my shoes actually rub one way or another. There wasn't one pair I enjoy wearing not even my trainers. Always get sore feet after a day in London. Went to get some new shoes and tried a 7. It's bliss! I've been in the wrong size for a decade at least. So there's a top tip try a half or full size up next time you buy shoes and you might get foot heaven too Grin

Yep. Went from a 7 to an 8

Also shrinking! I went from claiming 5.6 - probably now 5.5ish

:)

easyandy101 · 09/09/2019 08:27

My feet have shrunk

Buddyelf · 09/09/2019 08:29

Mine have shrunk too, mid thirties and I’ve gone from a 6 to a 5.

DrVonPatak · 09/09/2019 08:29

It will depend on your weight, water retention, amount of time you spend on your feet and, in some extremes, an unexpected growth hormone spurt (which is something your gp would be very interested in). Feet are a very complex joint system with plenty of size leeway.

Pregnancy can cause shoe size to increase. Have you had children?

Missillusioned · 09/09/2019 08:30

It's a known phenomena that women's feet can go up a size during pregnancy and never go back down. It's due to the ligaments relaxing and causing your feet to spread a bit. Thankfully it doesn't seem to happen again in subsequent pregnancies, or some of us would have clowns feet!

Gwenhwyfar · 09/09/2019 08:33

It's flattening rather than growing isn't it?

cheesenpickles · 09/09/2019 08:33

I was wondering about this. I've always been taller than my sister but the other day back to back we seemed to be the same height. Also I'm a size 7 and she's a size 5 but I put her shoes on and they fit. I'm tempted to go and get my feet measured but feel a bit embarrassed to askGrin

GrumpiestCat · 09/09/2019 08:38

Yup I've had two children - and that's interesting (and not actually that surprising now I think about it) to think the additional weight distribution affects the shape and size.

Hederex · 09/09/2019 08:41

I went from a 6 to a 7 too.

I've never linked it with pregnancy but I think it might have been around the same time I had my first DC.

Camomila · 09/09/2019 08:41

Mine have gotton smaller.
Used to wear a 4.5 or 5, now I wear a 4 or 4.5

Are they vanity sizing shoes!?

MorrisZapp · 09/09/2019 08:41

Yup. Used to be a six, now a seven since having DS 9 years ago.

I also think most trainers come up small, and don't take account of the padding taking up room.

Rise up, size up!

GrumpiestCat · 09/09/2019 08:43

I have a feeling another factor at play is that there's much more variation in sizing than there used to be, as my elder son is a 7 too but placed together my 7 is different to his 7 (both Nike trainers although his from boy section mine from girl but ostensibly similar style). Who knows!

chemenger · 09/09/2019 08:43

I went from a 6to a 7 after 2 pregnancies and said goodbye to dozens of beautiful shoes.

SerenDippitty · 09/09/2019 08:43

My feet have also shrunk by half a size, from 5.5 to 5. Or does vanity sizing affect shoe sizing too? Grin

ThereWere10 · 09/09/2019 08:44

Mine grew larger when I was pregnant with DC. I went from occasionally being able to wear nice shoes sandals to never being able to find any nice shoes Sad

They have kind of collapsed though rather than grown larger in the same shape. Makes sense with what pp said about the ligaments. They also hurt a lot more if I walk a lot and I worry it will my knees long term.

OMGshefoundmeout · 09/09/2019 08:45

Mine have. I have worn a size 3 for over 40 years. A while ago I gave up on wearing heels as they were just too uncomfortable - until I tried on a pair in size 4. It was a revelation! I still don’t wear heels often but it is so nice to get dressed up for an event and wear a glamorous pair of sandals or courts and not my dowdy ‘granny flats’. It also makes me the same shoe size as my twenty something daughter which opens up a whole new wardrobe of glamour!

BeautyGoesToBenidorm · 09/09/2019 08:48

I went from a 3.5 to a 4 after my first DC. Sometimes 4.5 in running shoes, depending on the size of the toe box. I also used to have very narrow feet, but now they're what I'd say is average width.

Figmentofmyimagination · 09/09/2019 08:51

Isn’t it getting wider rather than longer? And in my case, big (but not painful) bunions on the big toe joint too. Only 55!

Have gone from 6 to 7 but really it’s width I am after. Nightmare buying shoes, with many shoes bought and barely worn.

Shoe stretchers are a possibility. You can get them on amazon - v cheap - and lots of people like them but they haven’t really worked for me.

I find as I get older that it’s also knowing which brands tend to be better. For my wide feet, I have had the most success with Joseph siebel for casual shoes and Gabor for posher ones.

JaceLancs · 09/09/2019 08:54

My feet have not changed despite losing 7.5 stone
However they were always the skinniest part of me!
I vary between a 3.5 and 4.5 depending on brand

fantasmasgoria1 · 09/09/2019 08:58

I have always been a size 7, occasionally an 8. I'm now a definite 8, 7 doesn't seem to fit at all now!

Ponoka7 · 09/09/2019 08:59

I don't think they grow, medically speaking. I think they change shape/size depending on weight, water retention etc.

I've lost two stone in weight. My feet are going back to what they once were and I'm finding it easier to walk, without going to one side etc.

I try to wear sketchers as much as possible. They fit your feet well. Their 'street styles' are fashionable.

vintanner · 09/09/2019 09:03

As someone once said to me, 'it's only a number', dress/shoe sizes change with different manufacturers. I can be a shoe size 5 in one and 4 in another style and don't get me started on dress sizes. Lol.

cheesenpickles · 09/09/2019 09:21

That's interesting people are saying about weight loss as I've lost nearly 4 stone. I have a high arch and instep though which has always made getting shoes tricky.

Oldraver · 09/09/2019 09:23

I started a job where I was on my feet for 5 hours (constantly moving) dong up to 29,000 steps a day.

I lost weight on my feet and they shrunk a little
