To dream feed?

4 month old DS had his last bottle at 7:15ish. He's been asleep since about 8.

I want to go to sleep soon, but I know itll only be a couple of hours before he wakes up wanting a feed.

Should I try him with a bit of milk now?

I wouldn't. It never worked for me.

GabbyChalice400 · 08/09/2019 23:19

@Sunshine93 Ah 😩 I've never tried it before but have heard some others say it was a success for them. I usually try to give him his last feed a bit later but he was bloody knackered so I put him down to sleep a bit earlier than usual

I wouldn't (although I have done) because tonight might be the night he sleeps through and you won't need to. Go to bed Grin

GabbyChalice400 · 08/09/2019 23:22

@nokidshere he was sleeping through but since he's hit 4 months he's been waking up once or twice during the night Sad I guess this is what is also known as the 4 month sleep regression!

Do it, what have you got to lose? Just finished dream feeding my 7 month old and that will see her through till morning.

GabbyChalice400 · 08/09/2019 23:25

@tasharichford He gets really grumpy if he's woken up. He's a light sleeper so the chances of him actually staying asleep are slim

Sunshine93 · 08/09/2019 23:26

what have you got to lose? A good night's sleep!!

JazzyGG · 08/09/2019 23:26

Do it - I did it with both of mine they may be a bit taken aback the first couple of times but after then it becomes second nature. I loved the dream feed!

GabbyChalice400 · 08/09/2019 23:30

I think I'll try it. He probably needs a nappy change as well, how do I approach that one!?

Wynston · 08/09/2019 23:31

Oh i used to dream feed.......i always lived in the hope they would sleep through.......they never did but watching a sleeping baby feeding away is lovely........

CourtneyB123 · 08/09/2019 23:32

I dream feed because I know they by the time I've settled if I dont, little one will wake for food. If he is cooked out I would in a dark room change his nappy first, this will prompt him to wake a little and take the bottle. Good luck x

CourtneyB123 · 08/09/2019 23:32

Oops conked** not cooked!

thisnamechanger · 08/09/2019 23:34

I think I've changed my nephew without him really waking. Gave him a bottle straight after and he drank the whole think asleep Smile

NannaNoodleman · 08/09/2019 23:37

I dream fed both of mine and it worked a treat. I know friends who tried it with disastrous consequences!!

Change the nappy while he's still lying in his cot... don't use wipes unless there's poo, minimal disruption.

GabbyChalice400 · 08/09/2019 23:40

Thanks @NannaNoodleman, I didn't think of changing him in his cot Smile will give it a go

GabbyChalice400 · 08/09/2019 23:40

Gonna try to feed him now.. here goes!

OP posts:
GabbyChalice400 · 08/09/2019 23:58

Managed to nappy change him and feed him 6oz with minimal disruption, until I put him down back to sleep and now he's woken up 😩

FairyDust92 · 09/09/2019 00:00

@GabbyChalice400 I'm thinking exactly the same thing right now. He's due around now and I usually top him up as he's only 9 weeks but I don't know if to! He'll probably need a bum change though!

GabbyChalice400 · 09/09/2019 00:01

Good luck @FairyDust92!

I used to dream feed DD as she fell into a pattern of wanting a feed at 12.30am which killed me and DH.
So whom ever went to bed last would dream feed her then (usually DH). Meaning she would sleep through until 3-4am and I could get a good 6 hours.

Halo1234 · 09/09/2019 00:16

You cant win hear op. Sorry to tell u. With ds1 I did a dream feed at 11pm so I could get more sleep. He learned to expect milk at that time and would wake for a feed at 11pm way way way after he should have been old enough to sleep through (about 1 and a half. At one point that was the only bottle he had in a day).
Thinking I had learned my lesson with dd (my second child) I fef on demand. So no dream feed.....and she was up and down all night. She had colic tbf so there were other circumstances but she wanted to take tiny amounts little and often and didnt sleep through the night until she was much older than most.
So the morale of the story is u cant win but get used to being tired. Haha. Good luck. Hopefully u will be lucky and he will be back to.sleeping through in no time.

Pepperstripe · 09/09/2019 00:25

By 4 months we stopped changing the nappy unless he'd pooped which he doesn't at night. Also we were asleep by 9pm (because we were knackered) and took it in turns for the first and second feed. Dream feeding doesn't seem to work on my son.

FairyDust92 · 09/09/2019 00:59

Thanks! Changed his bum wasn't even interested in his feed! He's back to sleep though ☺️

tasharichford · 09/09/2019 17:22

@Sunshine93 but she's going to get woken up once or twice anyway according to op. Doesn't work with every baby but I defo think it's worth a shot. Has worked wonders with my 3

GabbyChalice400 · 09/09/2019 18:16

Fed DS at 11:30pm and he didn't wake up until 6 Smile
