This can’t all be down to 1 wisdom tooth?

I have a decayed top wisdom tooth the dentist thinks it may also be infected. I also have a pressure like feeling above my top teeth and in the bridge of my nose. Could this be caused by the tooth? Or can you get a sinus infection with just the pressure feeling and none of the other symptoms?

I’m having an impacted wisdom tooth out on Tuesday. It’s fine now but because the gum around it is all flappy - technical term - it sometimes gets infected. It fucks my sinuses every time. Your mouth and your nose are all connected. Could be a sinus infection, could just be your tooth. From the sounds of it if you’re not pouring with snot I’d say it’s the tooth - but obviously this is Mumsnet and I have absolutely no qualifications other than shitty sinuses!

When I have an infected tooth I get sinus issues, headaches, jaw aches and what feels like gingervitis. Onto my 3rd root canal this month so not a stranger to the decay and infections 😂

Infected top teeth can definitely cause discomfort in the sinuses. Without wanting to cause any alarm, if you’re not on antibiotics or with a planned extraction very soon, I’d be heading back to the dentist.

Wisdom teeth can definitely cause sinus pain. Mine gave me pain in my sinuses, pain and puffiness around one eye and terrible pressure headaches - and it wasn’t infected, just in an awkward place. I ended up having to have it removed under general anaesthetic.

I will be going to the dentist this week. I’m just surprised that the tooth itself doesn’t hurt at all, and yet I feel quite an intense pressure above my 4 front teeth/ nose. I’ve got a really busy week in work so am hoping it’s a tooth thing and not a getting sick thing.

When I had root canal on one of my upper molars I was surprised how far up my face I felt pressure. It felt like the dentist was practically up to just under my eye socket!
Don't underestimate how far the roots go.
Hope you get it sorted.

Having had most of my teeth become infected and been removed due to inherited congenital issues, I can assure you that infection in the top teeth, of whatever sort, most definitely cause pain and pressure in the sinuses. If you look at a skull and where the cheekbone sinuses are, there's very little between them and the roots of the teeth. Any swelling from infection will go where there's a space, straight into those big spaces called sinuses. A lot of my sinus pain disappeared with my top teeth, and the roots of mine didn't grow into the sinuses as is possible.

I've got a flappy wisdom tooth and it makes the whole one side of my face hurt when it gets infected

Moveandlonsters · 09/09/2019 00:57

Thanks everyone. I think I’d find it easier to believe if pressure was on the side of my face where the tooth was. But the pressure is actually slap bang in the middle of my face and bridge of my nose. Hopefully the dentist will sort with an extraction. Although if it is infected I assume I will need antibiotics first?

@Moveandlonsters did you have it removed

Bunnycat101 · 20/09/2023 16:51

Yup wisdom teeth are awful and seemingly weirdly connected to other stuff. . I still get phantom pain where two of my wisdom teeth have been removed- just mega pressure but I think caused by my other ones. Whenever I get run down my remaining dodgy wisdom tooth always starts to ache. I was so close to getting it out in hospital but it’s too close to a nerve to risk it so I’m stuck with it.

Deedoo · 20/09/2023 20:23

@Bunnycat101 did you remove your top wisdom I get that phantom pain too across my teeth and bottom ones playing up are yours impacted
