To do party bags this way?

Dd will have a softplay party for her 5th birthday. Pricing up all the tat for party bags and any prizes for games (we have a room for food and games afterwards) it just seems a lot for stuff that has a 24 hour interest.

Wibu to get a big bowl of little things (puzzles, bouncy balls etc) and the kids just win something from there every game then I can do a paper bag each with a slice of cake and they can chuck all their loot in there as they win it. Anyone that looks thin on winnings I can just top up from the bowl.

I’m a fan of the book and a slab of cake instead. Not sure if they’re still good value as DD has grown out of party bags now, but I used to order a multipack from the book people and split them (obviously an author collection or something not a series!!)

Piñata full of sweets, paper bag each. A bit Battle Royale Grin

I used to buy a decent sized bar of chocolate each and put a sticker on saying thank you for coming to my party. Always served cake at party cant understand why you would go the faff of wrapping it in a napkin! Bonkers!

We were thinking about our daughter's party bags today too! I saw in The Works - a 'colour your own bag' (dinosaur or unicorn designs). Canvas bag and a set of felt tips for £1.

I always give tat. It’s cheap and cheerful. I don’t want to have to think about it too much

My kids don't generally eat sweet cones so I wouldn't bother with them. A balloon, cake, a whistle streamer and a mini chocolate bar/harbo will do. cheap toys go in the bin anyway

Give cake and nothing else
Hate party bags and don’t do anymore Grin

We just did a bag of sweets last time (got some red and white stripy bags like you got penny chews in back in the day off eBay) and they seemed to go down well.

And the previous year I got rid of a load of tat from previous years by doing a lucky dip 😃

I agree with sweets or books. I don't like the plastic tat either. Whistles and bouncy balls are the worst 😒 I'm not a fan of giving kids a ton of sweets either but I do because I figure at least its not wasteful 😁

Party tat bags are getting on my nerves, i just bin most of it everytime i get one as the toys are crap and dangerous.

I did themed sweetie cones once. Some sweets, car stickers, small toy car. Voila! Bubble wand and sweetie bag. Book and sweeties.

One decent gift is better than plastic tat! The flower pot idea is great, my kiddos love it.

I've just done my daughters bags, they all have a pencil, rubber, notepad and funky crayons. All stuff that they will all use, no single use plastic.

Most guests are 4/5 and based on my daughters friends are into 'writing'

I once bought a job lot of cheap colourful plastic footballs from a sports shop and dished them out at the end of dd’s party. That was about five years ago, and I still see them being kicked around in their recipients’ gardens. Longest living party gifts I’ve ever given.

Twolittlebears · 08/09/2019 23:55

Book people. Excellent multi-buy packs.

UndomesticHousewife · 09/09/2019 00:33

Kids generally want sweets. I always did a bag chucked a load of sweets in it and a nice pencil and rubber set or something like that that they can can actually use. Forget about the plastic tat that is useless.
We ate the cake at the party unless we ran out of time.

For my DD’s 4th birthday party we handed out a slice of cake (wrapped in napkin) and a sweetcone - the children picked one sweetcone out of a bucket (which I got my DD to decorate with stickers)
It was £35 for 40 sweetcones so worked out less than a pound per “party favour” for each child 👍 none of these plastic toys that get played with for a few hours then inevitably thrown away.
Good luck, I hope you find the best solution for your child’s party.
