Dog chewed glasses - quickest way to replace them?

Sorry it's not an AIBU.

I'm starting a new job next Monday and will need to catch a flight at the crack of dawn to do so. There's no way I will be able to navigate 2 airports without my glasses. Every optician I ring is telling me it will take at least 2 weeks to get a new pair. Does anyone know of a quicker method? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I remember a few years ago a boots optician telling me they could do an express service (24hrs) but that sounds too good to be true. Nowhere is open for me to ask!

glasses direct get them to you within 7 days x

Lwmommy · 08/09/2019 16:29

Vision express used to make up same day prescriptions in branch, but glasses direct are great and much cheaper is you can wait 7 days.

stucknoue · 08/09/2019 16:47

Vision express, same day, specsavers might be able to do in 4, they did mine

Thanks! Have an appointment with vision express tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

You need to book an appointment with a opticians that has a lab onsite to get a replacement pair as quickly as possible. If you have a standard single vision lens they could be made in a few hours, if you need a more complex prescription the lenses may need to be ordered in. Have you got a spare pair or old pair that may get you through the next few days?

Roselilly36 · 08/09/2019 18:50

You could always take your prescription elsewhere. Assuming your prescription is upto date, you could order the same pair to be made up over the phone. If your prescription is out of date, this option may not be possible. I hope you get it sorted out.

Watching with interest as I urgently need too.

If not how about an eye test and contact lenses for a few days?

Starisnotanumber · 08/09/2019 23:06

If the lenses are still OK and it's just the frame that's damaged I have had the lenses put into new frames which are the same style at specsaver it took a couple of minutes. It only cost the cost of the frames. Maybe if you contact your optition they may be able to help.
Then get another pair for emergencies

GreenTulips · 08/09/2019 23:11

We’ve had new lens put in existing frames in the spot - it’s quick and easy

How did you break them?

I can recommend online opticians for cheap spares for future reference

PancakeAndKeith · 08/09/2019 23:14

Some branches of Specsavers have labs on site so it’s worth asking. Vision Express used to but now a lot of branches lost their labs to do it centrally.

Unfortunately no spare (has been on my to-do list for over a year!) and the lenses have been chewed into smithereens.

According to my local opticians my astigmatism is quite high so most express services won't be able to accommodate me. My local opticians contacted the manufacturer and they say they'll be able to get me a pair to me in two days. The appointment is on Wednesday so it'll be close.

Good luck to posters in a similar predicament.
