Im always tired and have always been a tired person. However recently i feel like ive been hit by a truck!
i go to bed at 10 or 11 and get up at 7. Im usually disturbed by my 2 year old once or twice. When he naps i literally collapse in bed for a couple of hours. Im just tired!

I think you’re probably alright as being the parent of a two year old can be exhausting! But if you’re concerned mention it to your GP and maybe get yourself checked out with a blood test for anaemia, diabetes etc? It could just be that your nights are still interrupted. Hope you feel less tired soon!

Think it’s life with a two year old..

tabbycat985 · 08/09/2019 09:49

I really feel for you @Llamalovestheweekend , I'm currently having the same struggles.
I would definitely get your iron levels checked! Do you have anyone that could look after your DC while you have a full lazy day? It's not a cure but might make you feel a bit better?

Mamapop1 · 08/09/2019 10:49

Really worth a check with the GP. I'm normally a very awake person, but low iron with baby 3 knocked me for 6 and I was shattered (blamed being older for the pregnancy until MW told me my iron was down, a pack of tablets and I was back to being full of beans).
It could be just life with a 2 yr old, but I found by that age they weren't as draining from a tired point of view, just a patience point of view.
Hope it's an easy fix.

Xxx

Get an iron test - I felt like this and was anemic. Feel much better after taking iron.

DontGetMeWrongBaby · 08/09/2019 11:01

2 yr olds can suck the life out of you...

However, definitely worth a blood test to check out iron levels, vitamin D levels, blood sugars, thyroid etc.

When I felt like this (albeit with older and less labour intensive DC), I had extremely low vitamin D. Six weeks on a high dose (followed by daily maintenance dose since then) and I feel SO much better, especially in the mornings.

Jeremybearimybaby · 08/09/2019 11:03

I've felt a lot better recently by taking vit D and iron supplements. I bought sprays from Superdrug, as I find iron is a bit harsh on my stomach. Coming into winter, assuming you're in the UK, a vit D supplement is almost essential IMO!

GameChange123 · 08/09/2019 11:04

Yes yes to Vitamin D tabs and thyroid test

Mitebiteatnite · 08/09/2019 11:11

I'd say ask for FBC, vit D, thyroid and b12 bloods. Sleep disturbance does take its toll, but always worth checking to see if there's anything else making you tired.

I have been exhausted for 2 years. I have DCs age 12 and 10, both sleep through the night obviously so I have undisturbed sleep from 10 until 6. Yet I can lie down after school run and doze off within minutes. Some days I need 2 naps just to keep me going. I had every imaginable blood test done, and all were normal. They're now looking at a diagnosis of CFS/ME or potentially Ehlers Danlos as I have lots of other symptoms which match both conditions. Sadly, neither have a real cure or treatment. I was naively hoping for a vitamin deficiency or even thyroid problems, which would mean there's hope I'll feel normal one day. But it would seem I'm destined to always be exhausted, and quite honestly I'm tired of it!

FudgeBrownie2019 · 08/09/2019 11:12

It could be normal but get your thyroid and B12 levels checked if it's out of the ordinary for you. I take B12 supplements and feel like a different person after a couple of weeks on them. Without I'm a zombie.

FudgeBrownie2019 · 08/09/2019 11:16

@Miitebiteatnite I have Ehlers Danlos and B12 supplements and frequent yoga and exercise have helped enormously. I go to a proper physio, too, who is very well versed in EDS and the difference she's made is enormous. If that's the route you do go down when you're diagnosed don't be fobbed off by your GP if they say there's very little support out there; there is, you just need to search for it.

Mitebiteatnite · 08/09/2019 11:25

Thanks @FudgeBrownie2019, I'm seeing a physio for various different things (mainly non-specific joint aches and pains) and she was the one who suggested I ask the GP to look into it after noticing that I'm hypermobile. She seems fairly clued up about it, so hopefully I'll be able to continue to see her.
