So my DP recently diagnosed with as yet unknown trigger anaphylaxis and I have spent 2 days calling pharmacies to find that nowhere in the whole of Manchester has stock of adrenaline pens!! So right now he's at work (chef) possibly the worst environment he could be in, unprotected and highly exposed and I'm a nervous wreck at a loss as what to do. There are 3 distributors of adrenaline pens in the UK and all are experiencing manufacturing difficulties. What do I do? Why? And what the actual f##k this is a life saving drug and even pharmacists can't access it? What's causing this? Is it just a thing? Is it Brexit? Is it something else? I'm literally sat here praying he comes home safe and will do the same tomorrow

I don’t think it’s anything to do with Brexit - I know that there was an alert about some Emerade pens not working, so people will be switching to other brands I imagine.

We got some from Preston Infirmary Pharmacy this week?

@ProfessorSlocombe

"It may not be because of Brexit, but Brexit certainly is exacerbating the situation and is clearly a factor in addition to all else that's going on."
That's rubbish. You are just adding to the scare-mongering. It has nothing to do with Brexit.

You haven't even articulated any reason for Brexit being a factor in the shortage but I'd be very interested to hear your reasoning or listen to any evidence about this.

I think you'll find GPs, WHO, hospitals and pharmacies are all very well aware of the reasons for the shortage. Hopefully they will explain to patients so that they don't end up believing the BS that it's down to Brexit.

I read an article today about the wholesalers stockpiling but not to do with brexit. They stockpile while they renegotiate the price the nhs will pay for the drugs. When they get a price increase agreed suddenly the drugs become available again.

That's great but sounds like you may have been lucky and your need just coincided with them having a supply. Just be aware that you may find difficulty obtaining them when the expiration date is nearer. Perhaps request them a month before they are due to expire as continued supply problems are expected.

Thanks for all of your replies to explain there are only 3 manufacturers epi-pen, emerade and jext I can't find a single one and for whoever asked he hasn't got any as this is only a recent diagnosis after going into anaphylactic shock twice and having to dial 999, I am going to call his specialist in the morning and see if maybe I can get a hospital prescription
