To ask how often you change your furniture & decorate

I’m a lazy cow/ not particularly motivated by home furnishing trends. I have nice stuff but I tend to replace when it breaks!

My friend redecorates & buys new furniture/ sofas every 18 months to stay up to date with trends. She loves all the Instagram stuff/ posts her house pics etc.

I feel like I slob but I literally can’t be arsed! Apart from the expense; I can’t be bothered to treat my home like a lifestyle magazine. I would rather go out to the park with the kids to be honest or going on holiday!

Aibu to feel like a shabby slob though?! How often you revamp everything?

Your friend sounds rather like she has too much time on her hands. And unless she's one of these Instagram "influencers" (whatever they really are...) no one is going to give a genuine rat's arse what she posts or how her house looks.

Been here since 2010, it was newly decorated in colours we like so we painted the dining room chimney breast twice and have just had the hall/stairs/landing done. Before Christmas we'll probably paint the kitchen. Even though we didn't need it we bought a dining table and chairs otherwise it looked empty, because it was, bought nothing else, don't need it.

I can't understand these people who feel it necessary to display their homes, or anything, on the internet, so naff.

You're friend is effectively turning furniture into throw away fashion for likes on instagram...what a vapid person.
Can she not see how wasteful this is.

The only new things in our entire house are the mattresses and the dining table and chairs. Everything else we have been given or collected from gumtree I can't bare to throw good money at substandard furniture because it is 'fashionable'

We moved house a couple of years ago with a totally different layout so we had to buy new sofas because our 5 year old ones didn't fit in the living room. However we sold the old ones because they were still in very good condition and so comfy I miss them

We went from having a dining room to having a large kitchen dinner instead so invested in a huge table that is now a much needed part of the kitchen, we gave the old table away to someone who actually needed it.

We had the entire house re-carpeted with good quality carpet and underlay so I'm hoping it will last 15 years plus minimum. The flooring here wasn't in good condition so for us it was an investment.

Decorating is done when needed but we have all our walls white so we can just touch up when necessary.

So in theory we may look a little wasteful but we moved to a house in a perfect location for us and our needs.

Your friend is precisely what's wrong with the world today. New = better and old = not good enough.
